March 2, 1959 - June 8, 2025
Brent Douglas Burkhart, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Dallas, Texas, on June 8, 2025, at the age of 66, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Born on March 26, 1959, in Abilene, Texas, Brent was the son of Lloyd and Jacqueline Bates. He was raised in Abilene with the loving support of his stepfather, Cliff Burkhart, and his four sisters: Teri Bagley, Janice Agee, Sharon Park, and Debby Bates Mims.
A graduate of Abilene High School, Brent went on to build a highly respected and successful career in the private country club industry. Admired for his leadership, integrity, and compassion, he left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Brent’s passions were many, including golf, running, yoga, and traveling the world. He was a lifelong supporter of the Dallas Cowboys and Dallas Mavericks. A wonderful cook and generous volunteer, he gave his time to art communities in Chapel Hill, NC, and Dallas, TX. He especially loved blues music.
Above all, Brent’s greatest joy was his family. He selflessly celebrated and supported each of us with unwavering pride. He cherished watching his grandchildren grow and supported them in all their activities—from swimming, music, art, baseball, soccer, to martial arts.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Burkhart; his children, Stephen (Ellen) Burkhart, Candice (Danny) Martinez, and Kelly Kolb; and his five treasured grandchildren: Schuyler Williams, Porter Burkhart, Miles Martinez, Brooke Martinez, and Roman Kolb.
He is also remembered by his half-siblings, Chad Burkhart and Tara Lavender Sims, along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Brent will be remembered for his strength, sense of humor, generosity, and the deep, unconditional love he gave so freely.
His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched and the memories he leaves behind.
