Brendan's obituary

Brendan William Kuker

“May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds.” Edward Abbey

Adventurer. Artist. Musician. Brendan William Kuker passed away October 11, 2018. He was born February 13, 1995 in Chicago, son of Bob and Lee (Philpott) Kuker and brother of Jason and Colin. All of us who were lucky enough to have Brendan as a son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin or friend know how special he was. He was loved by so many.

Brendan was happiest in nature. He found peace in the mountains with his dog, Grover, by his side. Brendan and Grover spent countless hours hiking, taking in the quiet beauty of the land around them. Brendan also found comfort in his art. He drew, he painted and he created sculptures out of objects from nature. His artwork was a true expression of himself.

It was Brendan’s artistic creativity and love of the mountains that brought him to Boulder, Colorado after high school. He graduated from Naropa University in Boulder in December, 2017. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree with a Visual Arts major and a Permaculture minor. It was Brendan’s dream that one day we would all work with, rather than against nature. While he excelled in school, he also found time to surround himself with music...seeing live bands was one of his favorite things to do. He was a talented, self-taught musician who could pick up his guitar and play a song for you after hearing it just once.

After graduating from college, Brendan spent time traveling with his friends across the country. He loved the freedom of moving from state to state, seeing new things and meeting new people along the way. These adventures fueled his soul.

Family will celebrate Brendan’s life during a private memorial in Colorado. While his time with us was too short, we are blessed to be left with his beautiful memories.

Donations can be made to Sierra Club which will support many efforts Brendan was passionate about including protecting our wildlands and wildlife, keeping our air and water free from pollution, and promoting a clean energy future.
