Brendan's obituary

Brendan Alan Franklin, age 36 of Brighton, Colorado, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Thursday, November 6, 2025. Brendan was the cherished son of Craig and Lisa Franklin of Topsfield, MA., beloved brother of Justin Franklin of Chicago, IL. and loving father of his son Scott and his daughter Helen of Greeley, CO.

Brendan was born in Salem, MA on May 30, 1989. Lived in Merrimac, MA until the age of 4, attending the Haverhill Montessori School for two years and learned that he loved his independence and desire to work at his own pace. Ironically, Brendan and his family moved to Topsfield on May 30, 1993 and off he went on his two wheeler birthday present at his new home. His education began at Trinity preschool followed by the community school system until 8th grade. Discovering his love for football, coached by his Dad - his competitive nature was obvious as he blazed his way to St. John’s Prep, continuing to play football, lacrosse and run cross country…as his year book reads “He was one to be reckoned with”. He leaves behind a great group of Eagle friends.

Brendan and his former wife, Jessica Garza moved to Colorado and quickly got established and built friendships, while raising their two beautiful children, Scott Alan, age 9 and Helen Joyce, age 6 in Lochbuie, CO. They were his two greatest gifts, whom he adored most of all and together they created a joyful world centered mainly around the outdoors; sharing a passion for fishing, rafting, golfing, skateboarding, biking, hiking and a rainy day movie. They all found pure happiness in dressing up to celebrate birthday’s and holiday’s which included good food, s’mores around the fire pit, music for dancing and good friends were always welcomed. Brendan’s legacy will live on in his children who will be lovingly cared for in the most remarkable way by their mother, Jessica.

Brendan was a presence that filled every room, no matter where he was. He brought love, laughter and joy to his Grandmother, JoJo, his Poppa, Herb as well as, Aunt Barbara and Uncle George.  Brendan was preceded in death by: his loving Grandparents Russell Gaudet and Joyce Franklin, and his Uncle Scott Franklin and Uncle Stephen Gaudet. He was known for his infectious smile, endearing ice-blue eyes, an unforgettable big raspy voice and his laugh-out-loud-laugh. He was kind, caring and genuine to his core.

His life was defined by the relationships he forged with others. If you were his friend, he profoundly touched your heart. He possessed a remarkable gift for connection. He could walk in to a crowd of strangers and walk out with thirty new friends. His spirit of generosity knew no bounds; he was a natural giver who found immense joy in making others happy and improving their lives, even in the smallest way.

Brendan took great pride in his career as an HVAC Technician. He also combined his many talents and his mechanical gifts with his love and commitment to his friends and was known as the neighborhood handyman, wherever he lived. He often accepted payment in the form of a friendship and experience - a round of golf at a local club, or a family meal of fresh seafood from a friend’s restaurant; his favorite, The Maine Shack, which brought him back to his love of New England and all things fresh. Brendan’s heart and soul was bigger than life; a true testament to his selfless nature.

His love extended across the country to his many aunts, uncles and cousins on both the East and West coast and he cherished the bonds he created with each and every one of them. He formed individual and personal relationships  based on his incredible zest for life. He was truly in his element  when he was boating and enjoying the fruits of his catch, fresh lobster and mussels.  Whether carving down a mountain snowboarding or  skiing, exploring new places through family travel or simply celebrating family gatherings, his spirit was always vibrant.

Brendan leaves behind a legacy of selfless kindness, booming laughter and unwavering friendship. He will be deeply missed by his children, parents, brother and countless family and friends whose lives are richer for having known his light. He was our gift from God for 36 short years and he will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed for all the days of our lives.

There will be a celebration of Brendan’s beautiful life in the coming months where we will be able to share stories and memories together.
