Brenda was our Tai Chi instructor and friend.  She came by in February and did Tai Chi practice with us and we got to see her traveling home.  Love, Janet and Lowell Johnson
Brenda was a truly special person. I will always remember her hugs, a trait she passed on to her beautiful daughter. Her free spirit was inspiring. All my love to you and your family, Jess.
Such a tremendous loss to all who knew and loved Brenda! My heart goes out to all of you!  May her beautiful spirit shine with light above.

I don't know Brenda for long but she was a special friend. We talked about the struggles and blessing in our lives. I will truly miss her.

I knew Brenda back in the late '70s through Dan, a close friend from the fraternity. Our clique of "party" friends escaped the trappings of collegiate Greek life. Upon receiving the sad news of Brenda's sudden passing, I told Dan yesterday that I thought he was quite lucky to have Brenda as a sweetheart.  Quoting this exceptional and personal obituary, "She was outspoken, (definitely but not hateful) opinionated and unfiltered, sometimes to a fault (I have been accused of this talent). She was a resilient survivor of life's traumas and challenges. She was loving, supportive, and giving to everyone around her, no matter her situation (this I recall even almost 50 years hence). She would laugh so hard until she cried that you would be forced to laugh with her. And Brenda gave the best lingering, tight, energy-sharing hugs. She would wrap you up in her tiny frame and hold you for as long as you needed. She never let go first."  Dan told me he talked about seeing me in Colorado Springs when he visited here last month, just before the high school reunion; that was touching.

I am saddened that we lost contact throughout our later adult lives, especially reading that she loved Colorado. My family has lived here for almost two decades, and we could exchange one of those lingering hugs once again.  My archives don't have any pictures to share from that foggy, inspirational past but I am not surprised she found Tai Chi and apparently brought it to her local Kentucky community. Our extended collegiate network of friends from Bloomington has lost too many lives as we now are reaching senior adulthood. Conjuring up memories of Brenda sitting on an apartment floor, putting on Boz Skaggs or Fleetwood Mac overplayed vinyl records as she turned up the volume with that big smile despite neighbors is a precious moment.

Brenda-or as I called her, ‘Boogie’-  was one of my closest and dearest friends in my mid-late teens/20s.  I spent MANY hours in her basement, where her room was, having talk sessions and watching good movies ( it was with her and  Norma that I watched “White Christmas” for the first time 😊) Norma made an incredibly good ‘signature sandwich’, and even let me ride along with her one summer to visit Brenda at her Pompette camp.  I remember Brenda talking about her big brothers a lot.🙂 She and I were in each others’ first weddings ( I was her MofH and we got married a week apart!) She gave me a surprise bridal shower that totally caught me off guard. ☔️ I really can’t explain the bond we had, as we had different lifestyles and experiences, but there was a real bond, deep down, between us.  Hearing about how she spent time with and loved  on her precious grands makes me realize how much in common our hearts were. ❤️ She was a wonderful Mom, too!  Truly, my friend ‘Boogie’ was an amazing, talented, smart, strong, capable, and kind person.  The peace and trouble/pain-free life she is experiencing now -with her sweet girls-is well-deserved indeed.

Brenda was our only sister and a special addition to our family.  Chuck and I protected her and watched out for her growing up especially the years during and after our parents divorce.  She always wore an endearing smile and was anxious to go on another trip or adventure anytime .  We will miss her very much.   Rex
The world lost a great one, I always loved Aunt Brenda and she was always the fun Aunt. I remember her being at every family function and I always knew when I was having a bad day I could call her and chat for hours. She was always supportive, sweet, and funny.

My condolences to Brenda's family.

I first met Brenda when she would visit her brother(Chuck) in KY.  She eventually became a part time residence that added so much life & love to the household.  I am the next door neighbor of the Sexton family.  Would always see Brenda on the deck or front porch listening to Pod Casts, music , praying or just taking in the beauty of nature.  Always enjoyed our long conversations &  walks with my dog.   My dog continues to look for her during walk time.  She always looked for the good in everyone & was quick to put out a helping hand.  I can still hear her calling most individuals “Darling”.    A very special person who will be greatly missed.

We have lost a Sister. Brenda has been in my heart, literally as long as My Dear Best Friend, Her Brother, Chuck Sexton.

Her visits with us in Danville and Florida were always special. We had an amazing, "BROTHER/SISTER" relationship. My wife and children hold a deep love for Aunt Brenda. She was planning on spending special time with me and other friends in Danville, to attend our music concerts in July. It will not be the same without her. I will miss our intense conversations Sister.

This Family Loves You. ❤️
