Brenda's obituary

Brenda J. Perry

September 28, 1951 – December 29, 2024

Brenda J. Perry, a spirited competitor and loving mother, passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 29, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of joy, camaraderie, and love. Born on September 28, 1951, to Martha Murphy Perry and Burt Perry, Brenda was a woman who brought passion and warmth to every endeavor, whether on the Troup County Senior Center Active Life pickleball court, at the Rummikub table, or in the lives of her loved ones.

Brenda had a special knack for blending fun-loving competition with connection. She loved the fast-paced energy of pickleball, where her vibrant personality made her a beloved presence among players and friends. Whether she was scoring points or playfully ribbing, Brenda’s enthusiasm was infectious. Rummikub brought out her strategic side and would always happily report how much fun she had with her wonderful friends and neighbors.

She had a knack for independent learning, teaching herself new skills such as how to electrically wire and finish a basement, accounting and mastering technology innovations. She was also a talented crafter, creating special dresses for her granddaughters, and elegant, handmade wreaths for neighbors and exquisite ornaments for her co-workers.

And let’s talk about FLOWERS! Brenda had an epic Green Thumb that could make the humblest flower glow and gleam into its full potential. One visit to her backyard oasis, built from scratch with her beloved husband, Curtis Smith, was a wonder to behold. So many great cups of stout black coffee, listening to crickets and waxing simultaneously philosophical and comical were  enjoyed with her in her backyard oasis.

And there she never met a dog she didn’t like. Brenda would turn into a puddle of butter meeting doggies of any age.

Above all, Brenda’s greatest pride and joy were her children, Laura M. Periman and Justin R. Periman. She raised them to do the right thing (especially when no one is looking), be truthful and trustworthy as well as be independent learners. She fostered their intellectual development, encouraged them to pursue their passions, and always served as their biggest champion and most trusted confidante.

Brenda will be remembered for her quick wit, her sense of humor, and her playfulness. She leaves behind a family, neighborhood and community who will miss her dearly but carry forward her spirit of love, laughter, and determination.

Brenda is survived by her children, Laura M Periman MD of Seattle, Washington and Justin R Periman of Albany, Oregon and her beloved grandchildren Logan, Carmen and Nathan. Brenda was one of nine children born to Martha and Burt Perry and is also survived by her sisters Janet Emfinger of Columbus, GA, Robert (Bob) Perry, and Martha Joanna Perry.

A celebration of life will be held at Striffler-Hamby 1010 Mooty Bridge Rd LaGrange, GA on Friday, January 3, 2025 at 4:00pm with a reception nearby to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the  Brenda J Perry Pickleball Shaded Bench Fund (at The Active Life Center) https://gofund.me/c1be8a39 in Brenda’s name to celebrate her love of connecting and of people coming together for a good bit of fun.
