Brandon's obituary
Brandon Mitchell, 59, beloved son, brother, and friend, lost his battle to colon cancer in New York City, New York on Tuesday, September 20, 2022. Born in the Bronx and raised in Puerto Rico as the oldest of four siblings, he was an avid dog lover, was passionate about sustainability, and led an illustrious career in real estate development. Brandon was also an avid athlete and football player, who started out with Pee Wee football and played through high school. He also had a voracious appetite for the arts, food, and his beloved dog Romeo.
Brandon was accomplished in real estate finance, development, and sustainability and had experience as a developer, investment fund manager, and consultant in both the public and private sectors. He also served as adjunct professor at Columbia University’s Real Estate Development program, and the Urban Environmental Systems Management program at the Pratt Institute. Holding a Bachelor of Arts in History from Columbia University; two Masters degrees: One in Urban Planning from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and one in Real Estate Finance from the Shack Institute of Real Estate at New York University; and a Certificate in Management and Entrepreneurship from the London School of Economics and Political Science, Brandon led an impactful life.
Some notable accomplishments he achieved throughout his career included co-authoring the Acquisition for Redevelopment Program, designing the water and energy resiliency policy, and investment and systems deployment as the Development and Resiliency Manager in New York City for Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Hurricane Sandy rebuilding effort. He also served as a Project Manager and Sustainability Coordinator in the Office of the DC Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED), where he was responsible for developing 770 mixed-income residential units, and nearly 100,000 square feet of retail space. Also while at DMPED, he served as the Sustainability Coordinator for the Walter Reed Army Medical Center 67-acre redevelopment, where he managed the due diligence, budgets and energy and water modeling for the planned 3 million square feet mixed-use redevelopment.
Brandon was preceded in death by his mother, Zaida Farnham of Sonoita, Arizona and is survived by his father Jose Miguel Feliciano of St. Cloud, Florida; his sister's Shawn Feliciano of Arizona and Christiane Feliciano of New York; his brother Aaron Thomas Feliciano of California and his beloved dog Romeo.
