You were sunshine ☺️ Always positive and pleasant. I was happy I was able to attend your Opera ❤️ People don't often get to share the artist's happiness as his work is being admired. You were so proud the opening night and rightfully so. You made something meaningful. Thank you for always being so kind to me. I was going through a hard time when you were working as a bank clerk and I was working at the cafe in the same building. It was nice seeing you anytime I had to make deposits. We need more people like you in this world. People who by simply being themselves, make a place better. I want to be this way. Brandon, even I who wasn't close and knew you through others will miss you. See you on the other side.

Brandon was so easy breezy I remember how natural it was for us to dive into the "old english gentlmen voices" the FIRST TIME we ever greeted each other -- and nearly every time since; being around Brandon was like an invitation to the party of life; i never saw him turn anyone away who needed a kind word or lift of spirits -- in this photo we were at least 15 years into the art of our 'jolly good show, ole sport' - life, sharing a stage for the first (and only) time as performers during Rhythm N Blooms music fest. It was 2019, but we recorded the song in 2016 -- point being -- i was nervous to ask him. He was THE BRANDON GIBSON by then with tons of accolades and awards in arenas and performance art circles I knew enough to highly  respect, but none of that phased him -- he was like "Why Id Be honored, Dear Sir" -- and it truly felt like he was waiting for that call; was born to sing that song. I wish i had met his mom. He was apart of my unspoken group of downtown brothers (Chris Weathers, Damon Rawls, n 'em) who FIRST let me know that black men too had a space out here; id observe how comfortable they were on gay st. or on the square and it let me know its OK to just be sometimes, and so of course -- Brandon was often the ring linger of merriment and we all loved him for it. A class act, and truly one of kind.

Brandon and I each performed in Modern Dance, Primitive Light several years ago. He sang Empty Chairs and Empty Tables from Les Miserable. Though his seat may now be empty it will be the memories of his smile, laughter and Joy which will live in our memories forever. JOURNEY WELL MY FRIEND.

Brandon would periodically come fill out the choir of the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church when we needed a bass back when our music director Ben Sims was also a teacher at Austin East. He had a fine voice, great sense of humor and strong commitment to social justice. I remember when he sang Paul Robeson songs at the Tabernacle Baptist Church as part of a program sponsored by the University of Tennessee. His voice filled the room. Every room feels emptier now. There is a big silence where his voice should be.
