Brandon's obituary
Because I know Brandon wouldn’t want me to write something sad, I am going to share with you my thoughts about this wonderful young man who became a member of my family by marriage but was and always will be a son to me in my heart.
From the moment I met Brandon, there was something about him that clicked between us. He was a little shy, so polite and respectful. When he drove up in his turquoise Camaro, I would soon find out about his passion with cars and how proud he was to have that car.
As he spent more time at the house with Di, it was so easy to see how much he loved her. He was kind and sensitive to her needs and so proud of her as she continued to pursue her career. Our family fell in love with him too and he soon became not only a regular member of the household but a wonderful part of our family.
In those early years, it was easy to see how responsible he was. He was going to school, working full time at Club Sport and making sure he paid his rent and bills on time. It always struck me at what a statement it was to see such a young man with limited funds prioritize his auto and medical insurance over so many other things that young people want and spend money on. He knew what he needed to do to take care of himself and that would prove to be so important as he dealt with his illness.
When Brandon learned of the illness he had, he handled it with the same strong will and he never complained even though he was in pain every day. His resiliency was evident throughout his life as he dealt with multiple major surgeries and events that changed his ability to do many of the things he loved. Even though he continued to struggle with the challenges, he never let it stop him from getting value out of each day.
This is just a short list of all the wonderful things he was:
• Uncle Brandon to Stevie, Clark and Ben and Uncle Bubba to Emma and Lucas, he was the scary monster for his nephews and nieces as they played in the jumpy house or had fun in the yard at Grandma & Grandpa’s.
• My professional photographer capturing so many memories for me with his special eye for just the right shot
• The mechanic we all went to when we had a question or trouble with the car
• My technical advisor when I couldn’t work my phone or figure out how to work an app.
• The son who thought a new tiny light bulb for his car was the best Christmas gift ever.
• The son who shared a love of Reno with Steven his father-in-law and who knew what fun it was to spend time washing cars – something both of them thought was important to do.
• A brother and supporter to Steven& Kristina and Brian and Michel in every way a brother should be
• The grandson who cherished memories of his grandparents as a child and loved Quito and Grandma Lozano as his own as well.
• The devoted husband to my dear Diana and the perfect partner for her. He was her heart and soul in so many ways and while the illness created daily challenges, they weathered storms as a team and supported each other in ways many of us could never imagine.
• And for Chelsea he was her loving and devoted dad. He cared for her every day of her first 15 months and he wanted so much to be a dad. He was committed to her care and loving her in every way possible so she would be happy.
When you look at the photos on the site, I think you will notice as I always do that while the joy in Chelsea’s smile is wonderful, the joy in Brandon’s face is palpable. He adored the family he had and he found joy under the most difficult of circumstances. He will always be a reminder to me, to value every moment in the day, to count my blessings for they are many and to cherish the simple things in life. He faced adversity with strong character, hope in the future and a strong faith in God. He was a wonderful young man and for those of us that were lucky to have him in our lives we will cherish the lifelong memories he has left us with. I miss you so much already my dear sweet son. Thank you for loving us all so much.
