Brandon's obituary

Brandon Edward Cox, of Clifford, Ontario, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at the age of 24.

He was compassionate, loyal and had the biggest heart—the type of person the world needs. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. He wouldn’t just tell you what you need or make suggestions; he would get his already permanently dirty hands dirtier, and do it for you.

A man you could count on, Brandon looked out for everyone he loved. His spelling may have been terrible, and every other word out of his mouth may have been profanity, but if you were sad he would make you laugh. If you were broke he would give you his last dollar.

As a child he was a typical pesky little brother, and a nuisance to the local police for the amount of times he was caught riding his ATV in the streets. But his endearing wit and humour won everyone over. So when he backed our mom’s Jeep into their other car at the age of 4, one look at his mischievous smile and gleaming eyes had us keeled over in laughter.

Growing up he was deemed a “troublemaker” in school who couldn’t sit still. This “trouble” was often Brandon standing up for someone else who was being bullied, and his over-active mind paved the way for his love of tinkering around on things. Every time you’d turn around he was on a roof or under a hood. He didn’t know what “can’t” or “impossible” meant. If it was broke you could be damned sure he would find a way to fix it. Or otherwise set it on fire.

Brandon was passionate about all things with horsepower. Throughout his life you would find him on dirt bikes and horses and in mud trucks and racecars. He loved it so much he even put a motorcycle engine in a lawnmower. He had all of us on the edge of our seat since the day he was born; he worked hard and played hard, and always tried to convince us that “his foot slipped” when there were plumes of smoke and burnout marks everywhere.

As much as he had a bit of a rough and wild streak, his softer side really shone when his daughter was born. Brandon taught us the importance of family and laughter, and of living life to the fullest.

Predeceased by stepfather John Harper, maternal grandfather Donald Cox and paternal grandmother Alice Hartlen. Fiancé of Katelyn Haddow. Loving father of Aubree. Son of Jacqueline Cox and Herbert Hartlen (Shelley Campbell). Brother of Jessica Herrington, Matthew Cox-Smith, and Natasha Roberts (Gerry O’Keefe). Grandson of Bruce Hartlen and Joan Cox. Nephew of Robert Cox (Jeanette Day). Son-in-law-to-be of Louise Dafoe (John Noble), and Steve Haddow (Debbie vonEuw).

We will forever remember Brandon's generous heart, adventurous spirit and devilish grin.
