Brandon's obituary

Brandon’s Life & Legacy

With heavy hearts, our beloved Brandon Nicholas Burgess, affectionately known as B, suddenly passed away on March 30, 2024. Brandon's profound impact on countless lives leaves us at a loss for words, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Brandon came into this world on December 15, 1989, in Buffalo, NY, born to Catherine and Charles Burgess. Growing up on Lafayette Avenue, he forged lasting friendships, shared countless moments of joy with his family, attended prom, named his first pet dog (Rainbow), danced to MC hammer’s “Too Legit” on the bed before he could walk, got on his sister’s nerves (tickling her under her chin), watched movies, laughed, cried, danced, sang, listened to music, cooked, with his family and embarked on the journey of self-discovery.

He cherished his niece Neveah, taking her under his wing whenever she visited. All we heard around the house was “Uncle Brandon, Uncle Brandon”. And he was always encouraging and supportive, I can hear him now, “you got this, you got this”!

He also became a father to the light of his life, Jenesis. The relationship these two have together is unmatched and as special and moving as the solar eclipse.

His educational path led him through Dr. Lydia T. Wright Elementary School, Emerson Culinary High School, and Erie Community College. He embarked on his professional journey at ECMC Sbarro's before transitioning to the Environmental Services department as a housekeeper, where he captured the hearts of everyone at ECMC. He carried on the Burgess legacy with pride. He also met Jennifer, the mother of his daughter Jenesis there and although they did not remain together, they successfully co-parented and cultivated a special friendship over the years. Brandon even became Tristan’s (Jenesis’ sister) Godfather and cared for her as his own.

In recent years, Brandon's dedication and hard work culminated in his promotion to Supervisor of Environmental Services, a title that ironically mirrored his grandfather's role for many years. He had just completed the exam to solidify his position, often jokingly remarking, "I'm in charge now," a testament to his pride in his accomplishments.

Brandon's legacy of leadership and warmth will endure in the hearts of those he touched, forever remembered for his unwavering dedication, infectious humor, and genuine kindness.

Brandon epitomized uniqueness in the most remarkable way. Possessing an old soul, he exuded charm, charisma, and an authentic presence that captivated all who knew him; a trait he no doubt inherited from his father. His zest for life was infectious, and he fearlessly embraced his individuality without apology. With his magnetic personality, Brandon effortlessly lit up any room with his big, radiant smile, earning him the title of “the life of the party.” That trait he undoubtedly inherited from his mother. Brandon also had an appetite for living life on the edge. His life had no boundaries and he lived it to its fullest.

A passion for outdoors and nature was only matched by his love for continuous self-improvement, anime, and his eclectic music playlist (spanning from Frank Sinatra to Beyonce). Brandon also loved the culinary arts, horticulture, home décor, T.V., animals, watching movies; and did he ever love a graphic T? He had a diverse selection ranging from a Golden Girls t-shirt to his favorite anime character, Luffy. Whether exploring the wilderness or whipping up a gourmet meal, he approached each endeavor with unwavering dedication and enthusiasm. Brandon found joy in the simple pleasures of life, from movie nights to building Lego models and hitting the gym.

Beyond his diverse interests, Brandon's greatest impact lay in his ability to spread laughter and positivity wherever he went. In both his professional and personal life, he radiated an infectious energy that brought joy to all those around him. With Brandon, laughter was guaranteed, and fun was a certainty. He leaves behind a legacy of happiness, reminding us of all to embrace our uniqueness and live life to its fullest.

Brandon's legacy is etched in the purity of his soul, the boundless love he showered upon his cherished daughter (Jenesis), the love for his parents and sister, and his unwavering commitment to shelter and protect those in need. With the blessings of his parents, he offered sanctuary to countless individuals, creating a haven where many found solace and security.

Brandon often placed the needs of others above his own. He was quick to sacrifice his desires and extend a helping hand. His selflessness knew no bounds. He would fulfill any conceivable need without a second thought. He exemplified the essence of generosity. Indeed, Brandon possessed a heart so giving that he would readily offer the shirt off his back if it meant aiding another. In every act of kindness, Brandon mirrored the remarkable compassion of his parents (Cathy and Mike) and grandmother (Ernestine), leaving an indelible mark on the lives he touched. Brandon possessed a unique quality that effortlessly put others at ease, inviting them to shed any facade and embrace their true selves.

Brandon Nicholas Burgess is preceded in death by his grandparents, Joseph and Vilma Burgess and Ernestine Walker, great uncle and aunt Fred and Alice Oglesby and a host of ancestors.

Brandon is survived by his loving daughter Jenesis Leigh, Goddaughters (Tristan and Gianna), parents Charles and Catherine, big sister Charlene, brother Richard and his wife Fariyda, nieces Brooklyn and Nevaeh, great nephew Axtyn, surrogate brother Doran Mason, surrogate sister Lania.

He will also be missed by his uncle Butch and family, Zahr and family, Maureen, Gary, and Lorraine and family, Aunt Judith and family, Uncle Joe, Anthony, and Stuart and family, ECMC (Pat, Michelle, Anisea, the OR and many others), and Jennifer Austin and family, Rayshawn, the Brackett family and a host of cousins, and friends.
