Brad's obituary
Brad Cox, 62, of Simi Valley, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2022 after a long battle with pancreatic/liver cancer. He was in Kaiser Woodland Hills hospital surrounded by loved ones.
Brad was born on December 17, 1959 to Bill and Carol Cox in Southern California and spent his entire life in the area. Brad graduated from San Fernando Valley Academy in 1978 and then started in the construction industry where he worked for over 40 years. Shortly after graduating from high school he met his wife, Kay, through a mutual friend. They married in Las Vegas in 1986. He had two sons, Brandon and Jake, born in 1990 and 1995, respectively.
Brad was passionate about fishing and anytime he saw a body of water he would be thinking about whether he could catch fish in it. The family did a lot of camping, graduating from tents, to pop-up tent trailers, to RV rentals. Brad also enjoyed woodworking. In the last few years, he carved and stained a few dozen walking sticks as well as many pieces of furniture. He was the go-to person for all foods barbecued. On several Thanksgivings, you would find him in the backyard deep-frying the turkey.
Brad lived for 19 months after his diagnosis and he made the most of that time. He bought an Ebike, and then another, and then another, and spent much time adding and removing accessories. Friends Scott and Shaun Richards and wife Kay also bought Ebikes enjoying many hours riding on and off trails throughout Simi. They found an abandoned golf course in the Simi Hills that they loved exploring. Another favorite vacation spot was Carpinteria where they rode the beaches with his brother Dale on many occasions.
Friends and neighbors came over often to hang out in the Man-Cave (his garage.) They knew he had an "Open-Garage" door policy. This continued throughout his illness and even after his death.
Brad is survived by his two sons, Brandon and Jake. He is also survived by his wife, Kay, his brother Dale, his mother, Carol, his aunt Pat and cousins Rod, Debbie, and Mitch. Brad was predeceased by his father, Bill, uncles Gene and Lee, and cousin Eric.
