Bylden Archibald Russ was born on March 15, 1951, unto the union of Charles G. Russ and Lucy Bryah-Russ in Barclayville, Grand Bassa County, Liberia, West Africa. Blyden attended elementary school in Barclayville and later enrolled in Bassa High School, Grand Bassa County from where he graduated.
Upon graduation, He was employed with LAMCO J.V. Operating Company in Yekepah, Nimba County, Liberia. While working at LAMCO, he met Mary-Rose Jallah, and a friendship blossomed into romance. When the coup occurred in Liberia in 1980, they made the decision to move to the U.S.
Once they moved to the U.S., their home was a welcoming haven for people who had recently moved to the states from Liberia.
On August 5th, 1982, He married the love of his life and with this union came two children, Saybah Katrina Russ and Dhaevah Yvonne Russ. In 1989, the couple decided to make the move to California to be close to his mother-in-law and family.

He loved his wife more than he loved himself. After her accident in 2003, he became her caretaker for 15 years. He was so faithful in caring for her and a voice to get her the care and equipment she needed.
Blyden was a family man, a caring man, always calling and checking on everyone regularly, calling his friends and family all over the world. He gave where he could and through his passion for the development of Liberia, he saved the money he earned from recyclables to help fund his cassava farm in Liberia.
Blyden had a passion for reading, learning new things, and a love for educating the world about Liberian history. He loved his country dearly and any chance he could get to educate someone on the history of Liberia, he would do so. He was a businessman, often making sure all who he encountered had the latest fragrances. His Business “Fragrance Express” was one that many people in the community relied on for the latest scents.
