I first met Blake through T-PAN (Teen Performance Arts Night)—a program ran by Alberta Robinet and I. One of my first impressions of Blake was that they had an incredible gift for bringing joy and laughter into any moment. Blake was funny! They had a knack for surprising me and making me laugh so hard my belly would ache! Blake’s creativity and talent in the visual arts were awe-inspiring. I loved watching them when they were locked in their creative flow, completely immersed in their craft.

When the opportunity came for me to ask Blake to partner with me on School of Rock at the Algonquin Theatre, I was thrilled when they agreed to be our Set Designer! It was a joy to see their creative energy and passion come to life in such a tangible way. The set they designed was just as I had dreamed—a true testament to their dedication and skill. I was so proud of the countless hours and care Blake poured into that production from Day 1.

Hearing that they were pursuing post-secondary studies in Technical Theatre was no surprise—I was overjoyed for their future and the amazing paths that lay ahead of them. I couldn’t wait to see where their passion would take them...

I am heartbroken knowing I won’t get to share another one of those big belly laughs with Blake, but I will always treasure the moments we shared. I’m endlessly grateful for all the work they did for our community, especially their contributions to the Huntsville Festival of the Arts and the Algonquin Theatre. We’ve lost a unique and incredible soul, but their memory and legacy will continue to make ripples... Big hugs to everyone who loved Blake. ❤️

Blake and I spent almost all of our final year of high school together. Somehow, it worked out that we had the exact same class schedule and participated in the same CO-OP program at HfA. I saw them every day, and over time, they grew on me, almost like a sibling. We were an unlikely duo, but we complemented each other’s differences.
My favorite memories were during the sunny months. On our way to HfA, we often stopped for drinks and sweet treats at Affogato, and on days when there wasn’t much work, we’d relax in the park by the docks, drawing together or discussing our future universities and aspirations. I owe part of my decision to apply to OCADU to them—where I am now—as they encouraged me to pursue my passion for the arts. An important piece of my OCADU portfolio was my painted piano, displayed in front of town hall in the summer of 2023—something they spent hours helping me complete, and it became a symbol of the time we shared. They loved it as much as I did. It wouldn't have been the same without them.
They were kind, generous, and supportive—the kind of person who allowed others to be themselves because they too knew what it was like to be different.
I learned so much from them. I really wish I could talk about the memories we made and share old photos from our time together. My heart goes out to you and your family, and I know we will all feel their absence deeply.

I was on the periphery of their life but was truly impacted by their remarkable vibrancy, curiosity, styling manner, generosity, intelligence, and kindness.
