This was the first picture she ever sent me.  Blair loved the story of how we met, and we revisited it regularly over the years.  She was working at Molly's Meanderings in downtown Frederick, and as she liked to say, "I meandered in" on my first trip to Frederick, looking to sell scarves to a local boutique, which was my business.  Leslie, the owner, wasn't in.  I told Blair it was my first trip to Frederick, having just come through DC and Baltimore,  then gave her my abbreviated pitch and left my business card and catalog to pass along, thinking also to myself, 'such a pretty face  and interesting demeanor.'  I thanked her for her time,  then left in search of other Frederick stores.  A little while later I received a text message.  It was her, and she wanted to let me know of a couple other nearby communities in West Virginia where I might try selling my wares, and I spent the rest of that afternoon driving to and visiting those communities of Shepherdstown and Harper's Ferry.  Nothing materialized, but I had started wondering if Blair might still be working, knowing that boutiques generally closed at 6, and that I might swing back through to thank her in-person for her suggestions and what turned out to be a pleasant afternoon's exploration, and perhaps see if she was free to get a drink. When I walked in again at 5:30, she was still there and just hanging up the phone.  I told her about my afternoon in West Virginia, and we exchanged a few joking remarks. The Baltimore riots had just gotten underway, and she asked me "if I had started the riots?" with her signature off-the-wall humor and wit.  Before I could ask, she said "I'll be off work in half an hour, if you'd like to have a drink with me."  She motioned to the restaurant across the street saying we could meet there.  I later found out from Blair that just as I had re-entered Molly's, she had been on the phone with her friend Amy wondering if she should call or text "this really cute guy (her words)" who had come in earlier, and lo and behold, I came through the door and she hurried off the phone.  We shared  a couple drinks, she asked me all about my scarf business and my travels in India, we came to know that we both loved the rare combination of David Bowie and Wu-tang, that her boy, Zvi, was named in a fashion after a kind of mashup of Ziggy Stardust and RZA.   She asked me if I'd like to walk her half way home as she needed to get home to her son. That was the 4th of May.  We would later continue the tradition she started of texting each other every May 4th, "May the Fourth be with you!"  I headed out to continue my East Coast sales trip, and we began talking nightly after I'd finish my day's work, slowly working my way up to Maine.  Before you knew it, we had fallen in love, and I asked her if she'd like to fly up to meet me in Maine at the conclusion of my spring sales trip with bonus points on my credit card that I could use to purchase the ticket.  She did. I met her in the Portland Airport a month and a half after first meeting her, with a large 'Blair Mackintosh' sign lanyarded around my neck, and we both had one of the most enjoyable times of our lives together for 10 days all around Maine, staying at multiple bed and breakfasts, visiting Monhegan Island, staying with her family in Castine over the 4th of July, and camping (yes, she actually did that) in Acadia National Park, enjoying several lobsters along the way.  That was more than eight years ago.  Our lives remained tightly interwoven ever since, and I can honestly say that our love for each other never diminished, in spite of all the changes and challenges that were to come.
