Billy was born July 30, 1957 in McCurtain County, Oklahoma. 

Billy enjoyed riding horses, watching John Wayne movies, Nascar, and Harley-Davidsons. He was an OU football supporter, and a long-time Kansas City Chiefs fan. Billy loved music, and believed in being kind to everyone. 

Billy was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Shelby Annette Nichols, his father William Vanaken, and his brothers,  William "Bill" Vanaken Jr. and James Henry Vanaken.

Billy is survived by his daughter, Billie McKanna; brother and sister-in-law, Randy and Debbie Van Aken; nieces, Kaeli Van Aken, Krista Van Aken, Kaitlyn Van Aken, and Kelis Van Aken; his nephew, Kaleb Van Aken, as well as great nephews, Brandon and Carter Dunlap. Billy is also survived by his chosen sister and brother, Janice and Gary Smallwood; and his mentor and forever friend, Jonna Maxwell. 

As well as many other friends and extended family.

In accordance with Billy's wishes, there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the American Cancer Society in Billy Joe's name.

The family is thankful for any memories that may be shared.
