Billy's obituary
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Billy Gene "Sandy" Clark, who departed this life on January 29, 2024. Better known as Sandy, he was born on May 21, 1951, lighting up the world with his gentle spirit and resounding rhythm.
Sandy was known for his profound commitment, consistency, and persistence; lessons he embodied throughout his rich life. A talented musician, Sandy's legacy will forever be preserved in the melodies and harmonies he crafted. His extraordinary talent on the six-string, 12-string, and bass guitars, mandolin, and a limited 5-string banjo brought joy to many. During the 1970s, he offered his acoustic guitar skills to Dottie West and toured the country with Kenny Rogers from 1976-1979, milestones that cemented his influence in the music scene.
He was a 1969 graduate of Hobbs High School, New Mexico, where he began his journey, continually striving to better himself and those around him. His infectious spirit and kind heart won the admiration and respect of his peers and community.
Proceeded in death by his Mother and Father Marion Henderson Clark and Jolly Mae McKinley, and his Brother, Marion Joe Clark. His spirit is carried on by his brother Carrol Cash Clark and one daughter, three grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, who will continue to honor his memory and preserve his legacy.
A Celebration of Life for Sandy will be held on February 23, 2024, at 1:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Santa Fe. We encourage all who loved and admired Sandy to attend, celebrating a life well-lived and honoring a man who truly danced to the beat of his own drum.
The world has lost a gentle soul and a remarkable musician, but Sandy's music and his teachings will continue to inspire and impart wisdom to us all. His loss is felt deeply by his family, friends, and the wider music community, but we find solace in knowing his spirit lives on through his music.
