Bill's obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Bill Parmar, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and community leader, on February 12, 2024. Bill's life journey was marked by his unwavering dedication to family, his fearless spirit, and his relentless commitment to serving others.

Born in Nadalon, Punjab in 1949, Bill's early years were defined by adventure and resilience. Despite losing his mother at a young age, he was lovingly raised by his father, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Known for his athletic prowess and outgoing nature, Bill made fast friends with people from all walks of life.

In 1970, Bill arrived in Prince Rupert, BC, to be reunited with his Uncle, Aunt and cousins. Bill's journey in Canada was filled with many firsts and significant challenges, but he met each with confidence and determination. He worked in various jobs, from fish plants to sawmills, and even became a valet at Maple Leaf Gardens in downtown Toronto.

Bill always returned home to Prince Rupert. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to become the manager and major  shareholder of Skeena Taxi. He later secured his first Canada Post delivery contract in 1979, a role that his business Mr. Speedy Delivery continues to fulfill to this day. In 1991 Bill founded Excel Printing and went on to acquire every major competitor in Northwest British Columbia including the iconic Totem Press making Bill the undisputed print kingpin of the region.

Beyond his business successes, Bill was deeply committed to public service. First and foremost was his passion for Rotary at home and abroad. In addition, following in his father's footsteps, he became an auxiliary constable and assistant manager of the victim services unit with the RCMP. His ability to connect with people and his passion for making a difference earned him numerous leadership roles, including:

Founder, president, and secretary of the Prince Rupert Sikh Missionary Society

Assistant District Governor of Rotary International District 5040

President and Foundation Chair of the Prince Rupert Hecate Strait Rotary Club

President of the Prince Rupert Chamber of Commerce

Chair of the Board of Community Futures of the Pacific Northwest

Board member of Northwest Community College

A passionate athlete, Bill played soccer regularly and participated in the Tour de Cure long distance cycling rides fundraising for the BC Cancer Foundation. His commitment to health and community extended to his involvement in Rotary International's polio eradication efforts.

Bill's later years were devoted to his family, particularly his grandson Ayaan. He embraced his role as a grandfather with the same passion and dedication he brought to every aspect of his life.

Bill maintained a state of eternal resilience, optimism, and joy which guided him through life's challenges and triumphs. His legacy of love, courage, and faith will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Anita, his son Bobby (Jenna), his daughter Pamela (Jesse), and his cherished grandson Ayaan. His unwavering spirit, generous heart, and infectious optimism will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
