Bill's obituary
Bill was born April 10, 1925 in Johnson City, Tennessee to Oscar and Maude Lewis. He graduated from Science Hill High School in 1942. He then served in the United States Navy Air Core as a navigator during in World War II. He was Honorably Discharge on March 30, 1946. He married Theresa Marie Ashworth of Johnson City, Tennessee on May 28, 1950. They were happily married for 54 years. After moving to Knoxville, Tennessee, they joined First Christian Church and raised and educated their 2 daughters. In 1968, the family moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, where they were attended Eastway Christian Church. Bill and Marie moved to the metro Atlanta area in 1981, where they both attended First Christian Church of Atlanta for the remainder of their lives. Bill retired from working as a branch manager for Anheuser Busch in 1987. He enjoyed over 30 years of retirement. Bill will be remembered as a selfless man, who always put the needs of others before his own.
Bill was a faithful and active member of First Christian Church in Tucker, GA, where he worshiped and served. He attended the Sunday before his death. He was always happy and smiling, glad to see you. Bill was known to tell a joke or two.
Bill is survived by his children, Susan Gillespie of Spartanburg, South Carolina and Nancy and Chip Clements of Roswell, Georgia, his five grandchildren, Maggie Prescott of John’s Creek, Georgia, John Gillespie of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Emily Longworth of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Brad Clements of Roswell, Georgia and Christy D’Errico of Cumming, Georgia, his four great-grandchildren, Abigail Longworth, Mason Gillespie, Kellen Clements and Easton D’Errico and many nieces and nephews. He is proceeded death by his parents, William Oscar and Maude Williams Lewis of Johnson City, Tennessee, his wife Marie Ashworth Lewis of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and his brother Jack Williams Lewis of Johnson City, Tennessee.
