Beverly Joan Serig, 88, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, March 29, 2023. She was born on October 29, 1934, in Independence, MO to Bernard and Erma Wilson. She was an only child.

She attended Graceland Junior College in Lamoni, IA where she met the love of her life, Joe Serig. They were married in 1955 at Liberty Street Congregation in Independence by Dr. Roy Cheville. Beverly and Joe promptly drove cross-country to San Jose, CA to complete their college degrees in education, and both began their teaching careers there.

They moved back to Independence in 1971 when Joe became an Appointee for the Community of Christ Church. Beverly received her master’s and specialist’s degrees in education administration from UMKC while teaching in the Independence School District. She later became Principal of Bryant Elementary, her childhood school.

Beverly was preceded in death by her husband Joe and is survived by their four children Debbie LaLone and her husband Marvin, Margie Mims, Craig Serig and his wife Lisa, Daniel Serig and his wife Angela along with 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

A private celebration will be held with family and close friends. The siblings will scatter Beverly’s and Joe’s ashes together off the coast of San Francisco.
