Beverly Ryan was one of our favorite local artists! We have two of her paintings in our Old Town, Alexandria home and they are as stunning and provocative today as they were when we bought them close to 20 years ago.
Bev was a beautiful person, inside and out, and her work continues to brighten and inspire our loves. Rest in peace, Bev.

Bev was a dear friend and collaborator in joint, juried exhibtions as members of Potomac Craftsmen Guild & Gallery. 1990, " I Felt Like a Material Goddess", 1992, " It came from Arter Space", Juried on-site sculpture @ Torpedo Factory in Factory Atrium, 1995,"She May Be Candy- Coated on the Outside, but Her Under Coats are not Properly Primed", Fiber Visions Strathmore Hall, Best in Show Sculpture.
We both were Steering Committee participants for " A Capital Convergence, '92, Washington, DC. I was the Printing Coordinator and assisted Bev in the design and printing of the Fashion Show Catalog the same year.
I met her in the 1980's as a member of Potomac Craftsmen Guild and Gallery where we both focussed on weaving and jurying members. I participated in various family functions and attended many of her openings at galleries in Washington, DC. I continued to follow her success as a studio artist at the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, VA. I knew of her struggles with recurring cancer and her operations. I was saddened by her passing after chemo. I was unaware of her memorial and regretted not being able to attend. She was a beautiful person, talented artist, and teacher. She was a very devoted parent of her daughter, Emily, who I have known since she was a child. I miss Bev very much and treasure her memory.

I am so sorry to read this. I was checking to see if Bev was offering any classes at The Torpedo Factory, having taken classes before with her that I really enjoyed. I know she had cancer, and wasn't teaching for a while, but then I saw her in the building one day with a really cute short haircut, going into her studio space. Later it occurred to me that was a post chemo cut, so I'm not surprised but so saddened to know she's gone. The photos show what a wonderful life she lived, as did the article. I'm sure she will be missed by a lot of students, family and friends whose lives she touched.
