Beverly's obituary

Beverly Smith Herrington was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She struggled with dementia for a few years and left this world suddenly on May 05, 2023, at the age of 85.

Our Mom, Beverly, was born on October 29, 1937, to our grandparents, Luell and Kathryn Smith in Jacksonville, Florida. She attended schools in Jacksonville, FL, Albany, GA and Tallahassee, FL. In 1955, she graduated from Albany High School. She often talked of friends that she was still in touch with from kindergarten, plus various friends she made throughout her life during her school years.

Beverly was married three times. With her first husband, James Calhoun, Sr., she had three children, Jim, Dianne, and Chuck, who together brought her five grandchildren, Shaun, Jamey, Lucas, Brook, and Janson into the world plus two great-grandsons, Brayden, and Jacob. Her second marriage was to William Zacharias and her third marriage was to Thomas (Tommy) Herrington, whom she said was the love of her life.

Over her life, Beverly spent her time doing many of her favorite activities and hobbies, which included over 55 years of being a Director of Music, an Organist/Pianist, a vocal and piano teacher, director of musicals and talent shows, as well as being a singer and actor. The musical skills and life skills like confidence and community that she imparted to others were amazing.

Additional areas that she connected with others included one of her favorite accomplishments where in 2002, she created a website and newsletter, the ALBANY HIGH TIMES, for her high school, representing classes from the late 1930's to 2009, where she brought much needed connections to many people. Also, for many years she hosted students from Japan while they attended school in the US who became like family and to this day have kept in contact with her and she with them.

Beverly was predeceased by both of her parents, a sister, and her husband, Tommy plus many special relatives and friends. She is survived by her children and their families, as well as other very special family members and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the sanctuary of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church at 1770 Johnson Ferry Road, Marietta, GA 30062 on July 06, 2023, at 5:00 p.m, as well as the service will be live streamed.
