Beverly's obituary
Beverly was an incredibly skilled seamstress, a skill she learned from her grandmother, Ma, who lived next door to her growing up. When Ralph and Beverly moved to Delaware County, Pennsylvania, in 1964, they built the home they lived in until Ralph’s death in 2014. Because she was so adept with her turquoise Singer sewing machine, Beverly created beautiful slipcovers, tablecloths, drapes, and curtains for the home she so well maintained as a fulltime homemaker. For her children, and from that same sewing machine, she created the very best Halloween costumes imaginable. She also created the most beautiful custom-made, matching dresses for her daughters. Truth be told, her daughters hated wearing matching dresses, and in the spirit of individuality, Beverly encouraged them to choose their own patterns and fabrics from the sewing store located at the Tri State Mall just over the state line in sales tax-free Delaware. Beverly was also an avid baker, and at minimum, baked a chocolate cake every single week. She was famous for her homemade congo brownie/blondie bars, a recipe given to her by her Aunt Rose; her Jewish apple cake, which was on the menu of her son’s restaurant on the Maryland coast; and her delicious holiday pies, pies that her daughter, Diane, also learned to master. Home keeping was her passion and she excelled at it. Once her children were older, she worked outside of the home as a teacher’s assistant for developmentally challenged children, exhibiting the extraordinary patience and care necessary to be successful in that role.
Beverly’s most joyful pastime was spent in the company of her three beloved grandchildren: Fallon Nicole Lane (Jason Clinton), Finnian Michael Will, and Oliver Henry Will. She spent many hours caring and nurturing each of them during their toddler years and eventually relocated to North Carolina to be with them after Ralph’s passing. Before that, Ralph and Beverly would travel frequently to visit their grandchildren in North Carolina where they spent hours on the beaches of OBX, in the mountains of Asheville, on North Durham Little League baseball fields, and exploring the cities of Durham and Raleigh, as well as the little town of Apex, where Beverly lived out her last years.
In keeping with her nature, funeral services are private. Those wishing to honor her life can request a tree be planted in her name in a U.S. National Park where the most need exists, a place amidst the grasshoppers Beverly so loved. Here is where you can request a tree:
