Betty's obituary
Betty Jane Thibodeaux (née Hanks), age 89, passed away on January 14, 2026, in Lafayette, Louisiana. A Mass of dedication will be held at 10:00am on Sunday, February 1, 2026 in St. John Berchman's Catholic Church in Cankton.
Father Ken Domingue will be Celebrant of the Mass.
A celebration of life will follow from 1:00pm to 4pm and will end with a rosary at 1017 East Saint Mary Boulevard, Lafayette LA 70503
Betty was the daughter of the late Michel and Louise Miller Hanks. Born on September 27, 1936 in Bosco, LA and raised in the Cankton. Betty later moved to Lafayette, where she remained and raised 4 children and 1 grandson. Betty graduated from Sunset Highschool in 1954. She worked many years at K&B drugstore and later retired from Rite-Aid. Betty had a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life. She loved sewing, reading mystery novels, quilting, crocheting, and feeding the birds and squirrels. She had a special love for cats. However, her love for her children and grandchildren was unwavering and evident in every aspect of her life.
She is survived by her siblings: Emery Hanks, Theresa Myers, and Eva Dale Guzman. Her Children: Randall Thibodeaux, Creighton Thibodeaux, Kenneth Thibodeaux, and Michael Thibodeaux (Jennifer). Grandchildren: Kerry Thibodeaux (Melissa), Derrek Thibodeaux (Erin), Drew Stinson, Bethany Thibodeaux, Andrew Thibodeaux, and Brandon Lally (Alexis ). Great-grandchildren: Madison Thibodeaux, Roland Derouen III (Lauren), Derrek Thibodeaux Jr., Dylan Thibodeaux, Caden Guidry, Ella Lally, Yessica Lally, Elizabeth Lally, and Carter Lally. Great-Great Grandchildren: Sezzi Derouen and Rory Derouen.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Lilly Brasseaux and Helen Doucet, and brothers Louis Hanks, Calvin Hanks, and William Hanks.
Those who knew Betty will remember her as kind-hearted and compassionate with a delightful sense of humor that could brighten any room. Whether offering a handmade quilt or sharing a laugh over coffee, she had an extraordinary ability to make others feel seen and loved.
