My mother Doris and my Aunt Betty were sisters. My mom loved her dearly. My mom and Aunt Betty were alike in many ways. They were both kind and strong. I have many fond and adventurous memories with her, Uncle Pat and my cousins. I especially loved our outdoor excursions! She touched my life as a positive strong example by her faith, dedication to her family, and huge heart.  I remember she smiled and laughed easily. This is how I will remember her. This is not goodbye but see you again on the otherside... Always and Forevermore, your Niece Laurie Ann Holton

As a kid Grandpa and Grandma had a huge garden.  Behind their garden was vacant property that people who lived in Southland Apartments used to walk through to Eureka Road.  It was a pretty busy path back in the 80's and 90's.  I remember when I was probably close to 10 years old playing hot wheels on the edge of the garden under the tire swing and Grandma was tending to the plants when an older lady walking to Eureka stopped and admired the garden and complimented grandma for how well maintained it was.  Grandma and I walked back by the fence and she chatted with the older lady and before I knew it she was giving her some tomatoes and peppers.  As the summer continued they would talk at the fence many times learning more and more about each other.   Nearly every time grandma was giving away food to the lady who had made it clear over time that she was struggling to afford food.  I remember Grandma giving her bags of food from the garden and even from the freezer.
In the 1980's I was a kid and loved Nintendo.  Many don't know but Grandma loved playing too.  She would often play with me and her favorite games were "Stinger", "Donkey Kong Jr." And "Jackel".  She was really good at all 3 of those games and would get so caught up that when she'd jump in game or had a close call she'd physically jump with her body while seated.
