Betty's obituary

Betty B. Barnard was received in the arm's of Jesus on November 20,  2024 while residing at Brickmont Assisted Living Community in Cumming, GA.  She was preceded in death by her husband and the father of her three children Jerry T. Farrell,  her second husband Irving Hightower and  her husband of twenty years, the late Congressman            D. Douglas Barnard Jr.

Betty was born in Wadley, GA and lived most of her life in Augusta, GA.    She and Jerry were active members of Lakemont Presbyterian Church of Augusta where they led their three children to Jesus.  Later, she and husband Doug Barnard were members of First Baptist Church of Augusta.   Betty was a wonderful wife and mother who gave her children much love and support.  She was known for her keen sense of fashion and enjoyed planning and directing weddings.  She enjoyed helping her clients in the Designer Department at J.B. Whites pick out seasonal wardrobes.  Early in her life, Betty loved tending to her garden that included roses and other flowers.  She was an animal lover.  She had cats and dogs as pets which were part of the family.   She was a lady of style and grace and beautiful on the inside and out.  Betty enjoyed time with family and her many friends.  She was loving, generous, kind and enjoyed doing things for others and bringing joy to their lives.

Survivors include her children Lynn (Terry) DeLoach,  Susan (Larry) Howell,  Steven Farrell and grandchildren Katherine Overton, Chandler (Rebekah) DeLoach and great grandchild Ryan Mason Jr.

The funeral will be held at the Chapel of First Baptist Church of Augusta  (Wheeler Road) on Friday, May 2, 2025 at 1pm.  Family will receive friends in the Rotunda at 12:15pm.
