I miss you so much grandma. I think about you often and how you look over all of us. I miss seeing your smile and hearing your laughs. We have many great times together and I hope you are enjoying it up in heaven. I love you dearly.

Bill, Betty's grandson, read a poem at the Celebration of life that was written by Betty in 1973:

Opening with a poem written by Betty circa 1973

When I die, give me a smile

That those who look upon my face

Will smile too, and say – “Let’s not be sad,

She’s found her place”.

Forget the scared scriptures, please;

It’s too late now you know.

Let people sit and talk – gossip, if you will,

Remember all the happy, silly things,

And chuckle now and then.

Oh, sure, tears will spill, at least a few,

But remember, there among the flowers,

Where the soft winds blow,

My spirit is free now,

Free to lend a helping hand to all of you below.

Gram has been part of my life for close to 30 years. This past year we tried to see each other at least every other week, for lunch, shopping or cards. When she entered Haven I made sure to see her every Sunday. Sometimes I'd stop by and she'd be sleeping, so I would sit and read for an hour or so in case she woke up, I hope she enjoyed our visits as much a I did. I am grateful for all the time she gave to me and my kids. Billy and Gillian loved going to Grandma Betty's, she always had Tic Tacs and fun waiting for them. She taught me cribbage and we spent many hours playing. Trivia Pursuit was another favorite, although we found it hard to find people who wanted to play with (against) us, lol. We shared many interests, history, photography, wildlife, we never ran out of things to talk about. I'm sure I'll never stop missing her.

One summer in Montour where we lived

My sister and some neighbor kids took a pice of plastic and the garden hose To make our own slipping slide.

It made such a big muddy mess but when mom got home she just put on her T-shirt and shorts and joined us

Mom really looked forward to me coming over on Wednesday's " to clean" but there was more card playing then cleaning

One night I was helping Mom, or rather she was helping me, wall paper the dining room.  It got late and as often happens we got to laughing about something - I don't recall what.  We would try so hard to stop laughing but every time I said "all right" she just started laughing out loud again!.  It took hours to paper one tiny dining room but we had a good time and that memory has stayed with me all this time.

Mom loved to laugh.  She passed that to me.  I love to laugh.  I will be glad when I can laugh when I think about her again.

Before she left Colorado, mom, Crystal and I spent a lot of time with Grammy!

Over all of these years, one thing I'll never forget is her favorite treat back then... Pop corn and M&M's! I always felt so special any time she'd pop fresh popcorn for all of us and add in those tiny chocolate candies!!!

Gram ALWAYS had big red cinnamon gum which I thought was so hot as a kid, but always wanted it because my Grammy loved it!

Her whole house smelled like VO5 and popcorn, still to this day when I smell regular old VO5 shampoo, it takes me back to a simpler time! A time when Sunday dinners and board games, (which we did every Sunday,) and family reunions we're the norm.

This was all so long ago, but as of late, it seems like it was just yesterday!

I love you gram, rest with the angels!

Love,

J bird

When Betty's Grandson Bill opened his restaurant, Fresh Meals, one of the items on the menu was Meatball Salad.  When she first served that family Meatball Salad there was some turned up noses.  But it turned out to be a great meal and we loved it.

Gone but not forgotten and the void will be filled with all the good memories and happiness that our friendship had.  So kind that I got to share the Greatgrandkids, mostly Matthew.

Rest In Peace Betty - Ann Peterson

Loved going to see Betty as a kid so the adults could play cards and as an Adult loved playing cards with her!!  We loved it when she would come and spend a few days with us in Casa Grande!!

For as long as I can remember Mom liked to play cards.  When we lived in Denver she would have regular evening card parties.  I would go to bed excited for the morning because I knew she would leave the snacks on the table for us in the morning.   Chocolates, nuts and pretzels were an amazing treat for a 6 year old!
Mom and I were coming home after dark one night after she picked me up from school in Tama.  As we drew closer to the house, Mom noticed a couple of figures peeking in the front window to our house.  She flung the car into park right there on the street and marched up to the peeking toms and as she was screaming at them to get away from the window, they turned around.  Turns out they were some friends of my sisters and they were just messing around.  Mom got back into the car and told me she should have been more careful and she was lucky they weren't actually anyone who would do her harm.  I just remember thinking - My Mom Is Fierce.
I'm not quite sure where to begin. Gram was always willing and wanting to help. I would have to say my fondest memory is when she proofread my very first nursing paper. Man I wish I would have kept that one. I'm pretty sure there was more red ink than my printed black ink hahaha. That paper cause many laughs between the two of us for years and even recently while we were reminiscing at Haven. It is amazing how one comma can change the entire context of a sentence. I have learned many things from Gram, but this is my most fond memory we share. I am beyond blessed to have had her in my life. She accepted me into the family with open arms and has been "Gram" ever since. I love and miss you every day.
I was so very sad to hear of her passing. I hadn’t seen her for over 50 years. But she was someone I remember looking up to when we visited in Colorado I know my mother always liked her very much. My heart goes out to her daughters and grandchildren.
