Bette's obituary

With a heavy heart, the family of Bette Kay Bishop announces her passing while surrounded by her children and grandchildren on November 15, 2023, in Longview, Texas. Bette Kay was born in Dallas, Texas, on September 16, 1950, to parents James and Kay Bishop. She was raised in Portland, Texas, and graduated from Gregory Portland High School in 1969.

Bette Kay was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a devoted Christian who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a loyal friend who always put the needs of others before her own.

Bette Kay was a paralegal for most of her career, and later on, she enjoyed placing paralegals and lawyers through her own business as a legal headhunter. She was passionate about her volunteer work with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and was Chairman and Captain of the HLSR Tours Committee.

Bette Kay also enjoyed singing professionally with several country artists in her younger years, and many years later, she created her own blues band that entertained throughout the Houston area.

Bette Kay was a loving mother to her daughters, Amy Touchstone and Ashlee Bishop. She was a devoted grandmother to her grandchildren Cerah Bishop, Clayton Quinn, Keyerah Bishop, Bailey Quinn, Austin Bishop, and Lola Bishop. She was also a beloved mother-in-law to her son-in-law, Keith Touchstone. She was a cherished sister to her sisters and brothers, Judy Trees, Jamie Bishop, Jim Bishop, & Jeff Bishop. She was a special aunt to her nieces and nephews and was greatly loved by her extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Larry Bishop and Kay Hundley Bishop, and her grandparents, Lola Beth Hundley, Jay Reese Hundley, and Exa Lee & George Bishop.

Bette Kay's family and friends will never forget her for her joyful spirit, kind heart, passion for music, agricultural education through the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, beloved Houston Astros, and dedication to her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who know her.

Bette Kay's family will hold a Celebration of Life in her honor on January 6, 2023, at The House Estate in Hockley, Texas, @ 2 PM. Instead of flowers, the family requests donations to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in Bette Kay's name.
