Beatrice's obituary

In Loving Memory of Beatrice Silberstein

Cherished Hudson Valley Resident, Loving Mother, Sister, Grandmother, and Friend
Beatrice Silberstein, a beloved figure in the Hudson Valley community, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 22, 2024, at the age of 90. A devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, Beatrice's life was a testament to love, kindness, and a spirit of generosity that touched all who knew her.

Born into a close-knit, eccentric French family, Beatrice shared an extraordinary bond with her parents, brothers, and her best friend, twin sister Bernice. Her early years were filled with warmth and laughter, and her deep sense of loyalty and devotion to her family remained a constant throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mark, her sons, Avi and Storm, and her brothers, Richard and Hugo.

Beatrice is survived by her two daughters, Sage (Marc) Cohen and Egan (Devon) Falco, who continue to carry forward her legacy of compassion and strength. She also leaves behind her cherished twin sister Bernice, her six grandchildren—Amelia, Lily, Sable, Miller, Scott, and Ben—who brought her immense joy, as well as a large extended family that included her nieces and nephews: Katarina (Peter), Michelle, Hope (Blaine), Jean Marie (Chris), Cookie (London), Troy, Marshelle (Valarie), Simon (Kate), Greg (Curtis), Joel, and Clark.

Beatrice’s impact on the Hudson Valley was immeasurable. She, Mark, and Bernice's family moved to the region in the 1960s following her guru at the time and joining The Rainbow Peoples Commune. Her family spent time in Los Angeles during the 1970s and early 1980s, where she owned a health food business with Mark in Sherman Oaks before returning to the community she loved. She was a lifelong advocate for her community, deeply involved in local politics, the arts, and volunteer work. She opened and ran an antique store and art gallery in town, showcasing rare and exquisite European antiques and introducing new, undiscovered artists to the area. Her store became a gathering place beloved by all who appreciated beauty, history, and culture.

Beatrice’s kindness extended beyond business. She volunteered tirelessly, helping women with home births and offering support and encouragement to those in need. Her historic ranch home, Gold Dust Manor, became a haven for family, artists, musicians, celebrations, and gatherings, where the warmth of her hospitality made everyone feel welcome. A passionate artist and entertainer, Beatrice’s adventurous spirit knew no bounds. Her legacy of compassion, activism, and selflessness will forever remain in the hearts of her family, friends, and community.

Beatrice Silberstein will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will live on in the countless lives she touched, and her spirit will continue to inspire those who carry forward her love and kindness.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Beatrice’s honor to the Woodstock Farm and Animal Sanctuary. or a charity supporting the arts.
