Bessie's obituary
Mrs. Bessie White Colston, age 105, of Rome, passed away Tuesday evening, May 2, 2017, in a local health care facility.
Mrs. Colston was born in Bartow County on October 4, 1911, but moved to Floyd County at an early age. A member of a pioneer family, she was the daughter of the late M. Jackson White and the late Blanche Satcher White. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lee "C. L." Colston, by 4 sisters, Bertie Worthy, Fannie Colston, Evie White, and Jennie White, and by 2 brothers, Robert and Jimmy White. Mrs. Colston was a homemaker and was the oldest current member of Flint Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, James Colston, and his wife, Emily, Rome; 2 grandsons, Jake Colston, and his wife, Tiffani, Rome, and Rev. Adam Colston, and his wife, Crystal, Lindale; 2 great grandchildren, Jackson Colston, Rome, and Mabry Colston, Lindale; nieces and nephews also survive.
A funeral service was held on May 5, 2017 in the chapel at Henderson and Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with Pastor Don Spears and her grandson, Pastor Adam Colston officiating. A visitation was held an hour prior to the service. Following the services Mrs. Colston was buried at Wax Cemtery.
Pallbearers included her grandsons, Jake and Adam Colston, Randy Hitchcock, and Tim Groves.
