Bertha Marie Johnson was born on December 25, 1926 to (the late) Andrew and Ethel Brat of San Juan, Trinidad and Tobago. Bertha and her twin John where the fourth of five children . When she was young her and and her moved to the capital Port of Spain but sadly Andrew died in 1940. In March 1954 she became pregnant from her long time boy friend Henry Tyson. By the time the baby was born Henry family moved but he wanted Bertha to know that he want the baby to have his last name. She immigrated to Brooklyn, New York in 1956 leaving her one year old child about two with her mother Ethel and a year later she married again a American man name Edward Johnson in 1957 and they had two children together and in 1963 he paid for her child and her mother to live in America and by 1970 all her siblings was living in America. Bertha worked as a nurse for twenty six years at a school. Upon retirement, she and Edward relocated to Rosedale New York in 2002. She was known for her kindness and hospitality. Bertha was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for family and friends. Her passion included reading, dancing and her favorite of all was watching TV. She liked to keep her surroundings clean and kept a spotless house. She put her heart and soul into whatever she did. Sadly in 2006 Edward died from an stroke. Evan with her husband gone was an extremely generous soul and a very kindhearted person. Bertha will be greatly missed and dearly remembered for these priceless attributes.
On Wednesday, November 9th, 2016 Bertha departed this life. She died from Stomach cancer in her sleep at her house. She leaves us to cherish her precious memory. Bertha s survived by her three children: son Ronald Tyson of Bedford Stuyvesant NY, daughter Janice Lewis (Martin) of White Planes NY, son Edward Johnson Jr (Monica) of Springfield NY; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; A host of other relatives and friends in Trinidad, Panama, Jamaica New York and New jersey and California. A celebration of life will start with Viewing at Paul Lane Funeral Home, Inc. from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday November 18, 2016 and the fallowing day the Funeral and burial. The funeral will start first from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at St. Philips Episcopal /Anglican Church on Saturday and then she will be lie to rest at The Evergreens Cemetery.
