Bertha Marie Johnson was born on December 25, 1926 to (the late) Andrew and Ethel Brat of San Juan, Trinidad and Tobago. Bertha and her twin John where the fourth of five children . When she was young her and and her moved to the capital Port of Spain but sadly Andrew died in 1940. In March 1954 she became pregnant from her long time boy friend Henry Tyson.
