Berta's obituary
Berta Lynn Edokpayi, a beloved mother, aunt, sister, and friend, transitioned on February 11, 2024. Born on June 24, 1960 in Washington, D.C., Berta lived her life with a sweetness and warmth that will be cherished by those who knew her. She was a beacon of kindness and joy, always ready to share her love with those around her, leaving behind a legacy marked by love, laughter, and kind-heartedness.
Throughout her life, she lived in D.C. and Montgomery County, Maryland, with her most recent years in Gaithersburg, Maryland. She attended Seneca Valley High School and the University of Maryland and was a well-respected Editor at Sentinel Newspaper during her 30's, later working various customer service jobs. She loved bowling, laughing, live music and concerts, spending quality time with her daughter, family, and friends, and enjoying the simple things in life.
Berta is survived by her daughter Ashley Edokpayi, who was the pride and joy of her life, and her sister Bonnie Grant. She was preceded in death by her parents Shirley Greene and Bernard Greene. Ashley, Bonnie, along with countless other relatives and friends, will remember Berta for the lessons she imparted - the most profound being to lead with love in all aspects of life.
A memorial service to honor Berta's life will be held on February 18, 2024, at 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM at Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home in Silver Spring, Maryland. Berta's spirit lives on in the hearts of those who loved her. Her unyielding kindness, unparalleled humor, and infinite love are what she leaves behind as her legacy. She would have liked to be remembered as a proud mom and a source of light and warmth for others. She will be missed dearly, but her teachings and beautiful memories will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration to those who were privileged enough to know her.
