Bernice Baker, born June 24, 1932, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2024. A beloved mother and grandmother, she was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Baker, and is survived by her son, Arthur Baker, and granddaughter, Sabrina Baker.
Moving through life with a blend of grit, grace, and a wonderful sense of humor, Bernice had a penchant for hard work and dedication that earned her the respect of her community. She met and married Arthur Baker in 1953, an eventful year that marked the beginning of a love story that would span several decades. Bernice's taste for simple pleasures enriched her life and those around her. She had a fondness for Chicken Tacos, a sip of Pepsi or Coors Light, and the tune of "Love me tender" by Elvis Presley ever so often brought a smile to her face.
Bernice eagerly welcomed the joy of being a grandmother on September 17, 1983, and was blessed to experience the same joy again as a great-grandmother on August 7, 2002. Her love for her family and her dedication to their wellbeing was evident in everything she did, from teaching them the importance of hard work, parenting, loving, and even the art of shopping and paying bills.
Her active lifestyle was a blend of her love for fishing, shopping at thrift stores, and her excitement for popular game, Aggravation. Her lighter moments were often spent in front of the television, glued to Jerry Springer and Wendy Williams Family Feud or captivated by a WWF wrestling match. Her favourite colours were a reflection of her vibrant personality, a blend of yellow and light green.
In 1967, Bernice and her husband Arthur accomplished a significant milestone of owning their house, a testament to their dedication and hard work. Her diligent and fun-loving character was cherished by many, making her a motherly figure in her community and beyond. She was known for her candidness - if she didn't like something, she made sure you knew about it.
Bernice Baker's legacy is one of love, life, and laughter. Her family and community will remember her as a hardworking woman with a warm heart, always optimistic and committed to her family. Her granddaughter recalls, "Grandma, you are dearly missed and you were so loved. We were all fortunate to have such a beautiful and precious grandmother. We love you so much. Thank you."
