Benjamin's obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Benjamin Tyler Settle, aged 40, on November 8, 2024, in Northlake, Texas. He went to be with the Lord after an 18-month battle with cancer which he fought valiantly against. Ben was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Ben was born on November 17, 1983, in Fairfax, Virginia. When he was four months old, his family moved to Houston, Texas. Ben and his family moved back to Ashburn, Virginia, when he was nine years old. He graduated from Broad Run High School in 2002 and from Christopher Newport University in 2006.

In the spring of 2007, Ben met his future wife, Michelle, and they married on May 23, 2009. Ben and Michelle lived in Ashburn, Virginia. They joyfully welcomed their first son, Luke, on April 14, 2014, and their second son, Nate, on January 21, 2016. Ben was a family man, and he cherished his wife and boys.

Ben had a successful professional career starting first at Freddie Mac in McLean, Virginia. He then moved to Volkswagen of America in 2010, and then was hired by Audi of America in 2014. Ben’s move to Audi opened up new doors for the Settle family and they moved to a Nashville suburb, Spring Hill, Tennessee, in January of 2019. Ben and his family thrived in Spring Hill and found a strong community through The Bridge Church and CrossFit Combustion.

In January of 2022, Ben’s career moved the family to the Dallas-Fort Worth suburb of Northlake, Texas. Ben and his family quickly built a community through Valley Creek Church and Rayzor Ranch CrossFit. These communities rallied around Ben and his family as he fought cancer.

Ben was a man that lived life to the fullest. He was passionate about many things and those around him knew what drove him. Most important was Ben’s strong Christian faith which directed his life. He was also very proud of his wife and sons, and loved them fiercely. Ben loved to be active and to workout, focusing on CrossFit, biking, and more recently, rucking. He had many cherished friendships from high school, college, and beyond that gave him great joy.

In describing Ben’s cancer journey, it has been summed up as a buffalo mentality. The buffalo walks right into the storm knowing what is coming and not backing down. The same could be said for Ben, as he walked right into the storm that was cancer, fighting until his last day. He has touched many lives and has left behind a legacy that has and will continue to impact many.

Ben was preceded in death by his mother Debra Settle. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Michelle Settle and their two sons, Luke and Nathan; his father Tyler Settle; and his brother Daniel (Lauren) Settle.

A celebration of life for Ben will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, November 18, 2024, at Valley Creek Church - Lewisville campus, with reception to follow the celebration. As Ben was the sole provider for the family, if you wish to make a donation to help the family with the transition, you may do so through the GIVE tab on this website.
