Benjamin's obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Benjamin “Benji” Edward Thompson on September 11, 2024, at the age of 59. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Forest Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Walkers Creek, Arkansas with Bro. Jonathan Montgomery officiating. Interment will follow in the Forest Grove Cemetery.

Ben was born in Houston, Texas on October 28, 1964 to James Edward Thompson of Walkers Creek, Arkansas and Marjorie Louise Hicks Vonheeder of Springhill, Louisiana. He had a heart full of love, especially for animals. He spent countless hours caring for and training them. You could often find him watching his favorite TV shows, whether it was the latest series or a beloved classic. He was a major foodie, he enjoyed cooking almost as much as eating. But above all, Ben had a deep love for his grandson. His face would light up whenever Kutler was around, and those memories will forever remain a precious part of his legacy. He was also known as the family jokester, always ready with a witty remark or playful tease to bring laughter into every room he entered. His sense of humor was infectious, and no gathering was complete without one of his clever quips or lighthearted jokes. Though he is no longer with us, the love, laughter, and warmth Ben brought into the world will never be forgotten. His legacy of kindness, humor, and devotion will live on in the hearts of those who knew him best.

He is survived by his son, Shelby Thompson and wife Cherae of Springhill, LA; one grandson, Kutler Thompson; sisters, Kim (Steve) Sievert, Carletta (Eric) Bethany both of Springhill, LA and Suzi (James) Whitlock of Anniston, AL; brothers, Leslie (Lita) Thompson and Lester (Denise) Thompson, both of Sarepta, LA, Danny Thompson of Winnie, TX, and Bradley Vonheeder of Bastrop, LA; sister-in-law, Trina Thompson of Bowie, TX; step-mother, Pauletta Davis of Springhill, LA, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Randy Thompson, and sister-in-law Karen Thompson.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff and nurses of Willis Knighton Pierremont ICU for their amazing care and compassion during his last days.
