Benjamin's obituary

“With the good Lord as my captain I can make it through them all”- The River, Garth Brooks.

On December 29th, 2019 Heaven’s choir added a new voice when Benjamin James McCabe unexpectedly passed away. Benjamin went peacefully to this eternal resting place. Benjamin (Ben) was born in Madison, Wisconsin to Terrence and Darlean McCabe on February 20, 1980. Ben was the youngest in his family, and his older siblings Joe and Elisha knew that “Benny” completed their family.

Ben possessed one of the most dynamic personalities this world has known- full of exuberance, kindness, and plenty of witty and perfectly timed comedic remarks. His passion for music led him to become a well-known and beloved karaoke host at the Green Lantern in McFarland, where he united so many people with his contagious energy. Ben pursued and excelled in his academics, too, receiving his master’s degree in Human Resources from the University of Phoenix.

Ben made friends with ease wherever he went. His sincerity and unparalleled genuineness made him easy to be with and easy to love. He was always only a phone call or text away for those he loved. Whether someone was moving or needed help with a car, he was there- no questions asked- generously offering a sense of safety, help, and comfort.

Among Ben’s passions for music, comedy, karaoke, and quoting movies, his love for family and friends was unmatched. However, no one could outshine his wife, Michelle Pickett, for whom his love will never end. Ben and Michelle were wed June 1st, 2014, exchanging the poem, “I carry your heart,” in their vows. The couple enjoyed spending quality time with their dogs, exchanging quips, visiting with loved ones, taking in concerts, shows at the Overture Center, and jamming out to music in the car. Michelle’s life will never be the same without him, nor will the lives of those who also loved him dearly.

Ben was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents. He is survived by his wife, Michelle and fur babies, Royce, Cooper and Harley; his parents, Darlean (Matteson) and Terrence McCabe; his brother Joe (Ashley), beloved nephews Colin and Liam; sister Elisha Jacobs (Joel), nieces Rory and Lilian, and nephew AJ. Michelle’s parents; Thomas Pickett, Jane Pickett; his sister-in-laws Sherri Hebert (Matthew) nephew Brody, niece Olivia; Lynn Rynning (Rory) nephew Sebastian; brother-in-law Robert Pickett (Katie) nephew Landen. And countless friends whom he held dearly.

The family would like to extend an invitation to join them at a service held at Blackhawk Church, 9620 Brader Way, Middleton, WI on Friday January 10th, 2020 with visitation beginning at 12 pm, service starting at 1pm. A celebration of life will be on Saturday January 11th, 2020, at the Green Lantern, 4412 Siggelkow Road, McFarland, WI from 1pm-5pm.

Michelle and Ben were a young couple with their entire lives ahead of them. This unexpected tragedy has left Michelle unprepared for final expenses.
