Benjamin's obituary
Ben was born in Deep River Ontario, July 4th 1950. With brief stints in Winnipeg, the Arctic, Crossfield, Osoyoos, and Drumheller, Ben spent most of his life in Calgary where his children were born.
He loved the scenery and beauty of BC and would stop to enjoy lunch in the sun beside beautiful lakes on hundreds of motor cycle rides during his retirement.
Ben is predeceased by his son Kyle Mamos, and parents Jean and Joseph Mamos. He is survived by his daughters Megan (David) and Kimberly (Mike), grandsons Dominic (Summar) and Blake, and great grand daughter Scarlett along with other family members. Ben was a loving father, introducing the family to camping, sports, and games. His competitive spirit included pressuring his family to take up Backgammon even in his last days so they would “lose every game to the master backgammon player”. In his younger years he was an avid canoer, exploring the back country via the winding rivers, and setting up camp on the riverside. He windsurfed for a number of years, dragging his children to enjoy the sunshine from the shore while he battled the wind, until a tragic camping expedition where his surf board was lost off the RV roof on a middle of nowhere back road. Up until the end he continued to practice his archery with his beloved bow and arrow, and Ben passed on this passion and skill to his grandson Dominic so his bow will continue to be cherished.
Ben worked as a journeyman electrician on the Calgary tower while it was being built before taking a 32 year position at Indalex manufacturing. He really was a jack of all trades and enjoyed rebuilding an old sports car and several motorbikes, renovating and refinishing all of his homes, and doing mechanical work on each and every hobby toy he bought. These included a jet ski and seadoo that received days of attention so they could be enjoyed by his family.
Our lives will continue to be filled with wonderful memories of a great man and details of a celebration of life will be shared in the coming months.
In lieu of flowers or condolences please remember Ben by raising a glass and toasting the wonderful life he lived.
