Ben's obituary

Ben “Benny” Schultz passed away on August 14, 2025, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of 89. Born on October 22, 1935, in Memorial Hospital in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, he was the son of Orville Olender Sanders Schultz and Sylvia Rae Potteiger Johnson.

Benny’s early life was shaped by both joy and sorrow. He was the brother of Donnie Wayne Schultz, who died in infancy, and Shirley JoAnn Schultz Almarode, who passed away in 2017. These family bonds remained an important part of his story throughout his life.

On March 11, 1957, Benny married Francis Florine “Flo” Farley in San Diego, California. Together they raised a family that included their children Russ Schultz—who preceded him in death in 2021—and Lisa Schultz. Benny was also a stepfather to Joseph Roque. In 1983, he married Patricia Reinsch; her daughters Donna Masters and Michelle Reinsch survive him.

Benny proudly served his country during the Korean War as a member of the United States Navy aboard the USS Rasher. His service reflected a deep sense of duty and commitment that carried through into his civilian life.

Following his military service, Benny built a successful career with IBM. His work took him to several cities across the country including San Diego, California; Rochester, Minnesota; St. Louis, Missouri; and Joplin, Missouri. After retiring from IBM, he continued to contribute professionally by working for Cardinal Health.

Outside of work and service, Benny found joy on the golf course. Golfing was one of his favorite pastimes—a way to relax and connect with others while enjoying the outdoors.

A funeral service will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church at 9:00 a.m. on September 10th, followed by interment at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri. Arrangements are under the care of Herman Lohmeyer Funeral Home in Springfield.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and serve as a lasting tribute to a life well lived.
