Bartley's obituary
BARTLEY OSWALD FOX HOLDER was born on September 24, 1951, in Georgetown, Guyana, the first child of ALVIN HOLDER and SARAH VALERIE HOLDER (nee FOX).
He passed away on August 1, 2023, in Washington DC, USA, surrounded by his loved ones.
He is survived by his wife of forty eight years, ELON HYACINTH PATRICIA HOLDER (nee CALLENDER). He is also survived by his children: OLUSHEGUN HOLDER, Dr. AKINTAYO HOLDER and Dr. DARA HOLDER; his granddaughters: IMANI HOLDER and ZINDZI HOLDER; and his siblings: Dr. DENISE MCNAIR and Dr. GORDON HOLDER.
Born to two teachers, BARTLEY had a passion for learning. He earned a Government Country Scholarship that allowed him to attend Queens College from 1962 to 1969. There he received a Guyana scholarship. He pursued degrees in engineering and business administration at the University of Manchester.
In 1975, he returned to Guyana to work in the Bauxite mining industry, where he served for the next three decades, including serving as the CEO (acting) for Linmine and the secretary for Bidco. BARTLEY also believed in service, he served as Linden Town Clerk and on the board of the Mackenzie Sports Club. In 2003, BARTLEY migrated to Maryland, USA, where he worked as an accountant before retiring.
