Barry's obituary

Barry Ross Stowers, loving husband, father and friend was received into the arms of his Saviour Jesus Christ on January 1, 2021 at the age of 78 in Howard City, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents Nile and Ada Stowers and brother Larry. His battle with medical issues in recent years showed his Faith in facing life's challenges with a smile and a hope of eternity.

Born in West Virginia on March 9, 1942, Barry grew up in Breckenridge, Michigan, graduating high school in 1961. He was a US Air Force Veteran and served with distinction from 1961-1965 during the Vietnam War. On January 4, 1964 he married Carol Ann Richert and together they have three children, David (Lisa), Paul (Lisa) and Rebecca (Micah), as well as ten grandchildren - Kiara (Phil), Evan, Bree (David), Eli, Sophia (Paul), Jonathon (Roxy), Leslie, Micah Jr., Marah, Meleah and 9 great grandchildren.

After sensing a call to ministry, Barry pursued training and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Religious Education from Grand Rapids Baptist College, a Bachelor's Degree of Counseling from Jordan College and a Masters Degree of Social Work from Grand Valley State University. He spent his post college years serving in various ministries, pastoring and counseling. For the past eight years Barry was a member at Grace Community Church and his hobbies included fixing up homes, fishing, reading and woodworking.

A celebration of life service, officiated by Pastor Joel Cooper and Pastor David Simmer will be held Sunday January 3, 2021 at Grace Community Church, 9920 Reed Rd, Howard City, MI 49329. Visitation hours are from 1:30pm-2:45pm with a service to follow at 3pm. The family requests that you wear a mask if you attend the service. There will be no luncheon.
