Barry's obituary

Barry Leon Patrick was born on February 28, 1948, and passed away on October 4, 2025, in Roseville, California. He was a kind, generous, and warm-hearted man whose presence left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Born in California, Barry lived in several communities throughout his life, including Redlands and Bakersfield in Southern California, as well as Citrus Heights, Granite Bay, Carmichael, Livermore, Tahoe, Reno, and Southern Arizona.

Barry was deeply devoted to his family and cherished the close bond he shared with his siblings, Cindy (Cindra) Patrick and Larry Patrick. He loved his siblings throughout his life, even when relationships were strained. Barry was a loving and devoted father to his son, Eric Sean Patrick, whom he loved very much and shared a close bond with throughout his life. He was an especially proud and devoted grandfather to his only grandchild, Jackson Patrick, with whom he shared a very close and meaningful relationship.

Ava, though not his blood daughter, was family to Barry, and he cared deeply for her. She got to know him through her mother, Jeanne, who had shared many years with Barry as a partner and remained a close friend throughout his life. Ava cared about him greatly as well and stayed in touch with him through the years.

Barry’s professional life reflected his integrity, humility, and generosity. Over the years, he worked in restaurant management, radio advertising, and later with the local school district as a groundskeeper. He was the kind of boss who never asked others to do what he was not willing to do himself. He was a natural mentor who brought people up to his level, teaching, encouraging, and helping others succeed. He was widely respected and admired for his leadership and fairness.

Barry found deep peace in nature, especially on the water. He loved sailboats and the calm rhythm of being out on the water, where he felt grounded and at ease. He also enjoyed planting flowers and nurturing growing things. Barry enjoyed music from Fleetwood Mac, ELO, George Benson, John Lennon, and many others. He carried an optimistic and thoughtful outlook on life, shaped in part by the influence of his parents.

Barry was profoundly affected by events surrounding his mother’s passing, including unresolved family and estate issues that brought him sadness. Though these experiences weighed heavily on him, they never diminished his fundamental kindness, generosity, or capacity for love.

Barry is remembered for his warmth, sense of humor, understanding nature, and quiet strength. He had a rare ability to lift the people around him, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

There will be no formal service. Those who wish to honor Barry’s memory are invited to remember him through music, nature, and quiet reflection, especially with the song he wanted to be remembered by, called Spirit in the Sky.
