Barry's obituary
Manning, Barry N passed on the morning of Wednesday, December 20th, 2023, after an episode of cardiac arrest left him hospitalized for four days. He was surrounded by his loving family before passing peacefully.
Barry is survived by his devoted wife of 37 years, Laurie Payne and his brother Roger; his children Quinn, Eric (Amanda), Julie (Matthew) and Austin (Marissa); and his grandchildren Symphony, Amethyst, Pedro, James, Eddison, and Oliver. He is predeceased by his father, Oliver Denton Manning, and his mother Othal Ivy Manning.
Barry was born in San Antonio, Texas in 1943. He graduated from his local high school in 1959 and shortly thereafter joined the Navy to serve his country during the Vietnam War. During his military career he accomplished many feats, including becoming the youngest sailor to achievethe rank of Petty Officer Third Class in Naval history at the time of his service, ultimately reaching the Rank of Petty Officer Second Class before being honorably discharged. After leaving the Navy, Barry attended the University of Texas, later finishing his BBA in Accounting from the University of Houston. After receiving his degree, Barry worked in the oil and gas industry where he met his soul mate Laurie and shortly after they began their own family.
As a fourth-generation, native Texan, Barry enjoyed taking his family across the state to visit his favorite childhood destinations, such as Rockport and Wimberly. Barry was an avid bass fisherman and was part of the group B.A.S.S. through which he made many friends and participated in many tournaments throughout the years. One of Barry’s greatest joys was passing down the knowledge he acquired through the years to his children, including fishing, history, and world cultures. Most of all, Barry enjoyed spending time with his family. He attended many concerts, games, and competitions to support his children and he was proud of the adults they grew up to be.
