Barry's obituary

🕊️ In Loving Memory of Barry Lee Harrison

October 9, 1950 – September 24, 2025

Barry Lee Harrison passed away peacefully in Doha, Qatar on September 24, 2025, at the age of 74. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Barry charted a life of adventure, simplicity, and deep curiosity—living much of it on the water he so loved.

Barry’s love for the sea began in his early years, surfing the waves of Panama City, Florida. At age 17, he was accepted into the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, where he discovered his passion for sailing while crewing aboard the USCGC Eagle in New London, Connecticut. He later raced Hobie Cat sailboats out of New Orleans, further deepening his connection to the water.

A lifelong sailor, Barry spent most of his adult life delivering yachts and captaining charter boats, often anchored in Hope Town, Bahamas. His early career included work in various Louisiana plants, but his heart belonged to the sea. He sailed around the world, living aboard his boats and embracing each day with wonder and joy.

Barry was an avid reader, known to devour multiple books a day. He lived simply, yet richly—guided by his favorite saying, “Never a bad day.” His stories, his smile, and his unwavering spirit will be remembered by all who knew him.

He is survived by his son, Kristan Lee Harrison; daughter-in-law, Carlen Pielago Harrison; and grandchildren, Kahlor Lee Harrison and Kacie Lee Harrison. He is also remembered fondly by his former spouses, Lyne Gariépy and Cynthia Becnel Harrison Murphy. Barry was preceded in death by his sister, Margo Harrison Vial; brother, Steve Harrison; and parents, LeRoy Wilson (LW) Harrison and Delores Candies Harrison.

Barry’s legacy is one of freedom, warmth, and a life well-lived. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
