Dr. Barry Richard Friedman, 69, passed away on April 21, 2025, in Monroe Township, New Jersey. Born on May 13, 1955, in Brooklyn, New York, Barry lived a life marked by intellectual curiosity, and a love for tradition and learning.
Barry pursued his undergraduate studies at Rutgers University before earning his doctorate in chemistry from the University of North Texas. His academic achievements reflected a lifelong passion for science and discovery—a passion he carried with him throughout his professional and personal life.
A man of many interests, Barry found joy in the quiet patience of fishing and the expressive beauty of the violin. He was an avid language enthusiast who practiced Yiddish and Esperanto among other languages, embracing both cultural heritage and global connection through his linguistic pursuits.
Barry’s Jewish faith was an important part of his life. He found spiritual fulfillment attending Chabad services and took comfort in the traditions that shaped his identity.
He is survived by his devoted mother Goldie Friedman; wife Sandra Nathan Friedman; his sons David Friedman and Bradley Friedman; daughters-in-law Opalmarie Bailey Friedman and Dr. Annalee Haviland Friedman; grandson Israel Friedman; sister-in-law Janice Friedman; niece Amanda Friedman O’Rilley and nephew Drew Friedman.
He was preceded in death by his father Seymour Friedman and brothers Joel Friedman and Steven Friedman.
Barry held a special place in his heart for his grandson and looked forward with great anticipation to the day they would share time together fishing—a dream that spoke to his love of nature.
Dr. Barry Richard Friedman's memory will live on in his intellect, love for learning, and through the many pupils he taught over the years.
