Barbara's obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Barb Torchia, born on March 6, 1938, who departed from this world on February 19, 2024. A beloved Mother, Grandmother, Shayna, Great-Grandmother, Aunt, Great-Aunt, Great-Great-Aunt, Sister, and Friend, Barb lived a life full of love, warmth, and enduring strength.
Barb is survived by her loving children Pamela Grobbel (Dan), Michele Dumortier (Roger), Thomas Torchia (Jackie), and Mark Torchia (Laura). She was a devoted grandmother to Melissa Orosco (Chris), Brandon Glaub (Emma), Matthew Torchia, and Olivia Torchia. She also held a special place in her heart for her great-grandchildren Ariana and Leo Orosco. She also leaves behind her cherished sister, Julie LaGore, and her devoted sisters-in-law Joan Nierath and Mickey Beaudoin. She had many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. Barbara's memory will forever be engraved in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
She was predeceased by her dear husband Anthony (Jack) Torchia, her sisters Dorothy Camuglia, Shirley Monaco, Joann Wendt, and Carol Brock, and her brothers Alvin Jonske and John Jonske. She was also preceded in death by her loving mother, Lena Jonske.
Barb was a woman of great character, warmth, and generosity. She was reserved and quiet, but had a zest for life. Her favorite pastimes included having a hearty round of Pinochle, Rummy, and Mexican Train. An ardent fan of any game show, she also had a particular fondness for the movie Mama Mia and never missed a game of her favorite team, the Detroit Tigers.
With a soft spot for shrimp scampi and a refreshing glass of iced tea with extra lemons, Barb knew how to relish the good things in life. Her favorite color, yellow, mirrored her beautiful but feisty personality that shined as brightly as the sun. Above all, Barb held a deep commitment to causes close to her heart, particularly the work of St. Judes Hospital.
A Memorial Service will be held on February 26, 2024, at 11:00 AM, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Macomb, MI. It will be followed by a reception at 12:00 PM at the Italian American Cultural Society and Banquet Center in Clinton Township. Please join us as we remember Barbara and celebrate her remarkable life full of love, compassion, and joy. In remembrance of Barb's life in lieu of flowers, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to St. Jude's Hospital.
Even as we mourn the loss of Barb, let us remember to celebrate her life, and her spirit and honor her memory. She would want us to remember the good times, the laughter, and the love she shared with us all. Rest in peace, dear Barb, you will be profoundly missed.
