Barbara's obituary

On August 5th, 1935 William Clyde Skaggs and Wilma Veda Skaggs along with big sister Dorothy welcomed baby Barbara Ann into the world in Fort Worth, Texas. Throughout her life Barbara would repeatedly vow to live all of her days in and around Fort Worth, as long as she was able. For the most part, she was faithful to that promise.

She grew up attending Fort Worth schools, and graduated from Paschal High School in 1952 with dreams of becoming a professional writer. That was not to be for her, but she did attend classes at TCU and later at Tarrant County College, always enjoying a love of learning. She wrote beautiful poems to commemorate special moments in her life, and to celebrate milestones.

Barbara married Clarke Reynolds on June 2, 1956 at Gambrell Street Baptist Church and lovingly mothered three children, Daniel, Kathleen and Amy. Early in their marriage, Barbara worked for Ryan Mortgage as a secretary, a job she loved dearly and left only to devote herself to motherhood. But, she always found a way to put that sharp mind, and those organizational skills to use.

Barbara and Clarke enjoyed bowling, and together they coached junior bowling leagues while their children were participating. Many young people were taught to enjoy the sport by this duo.

Barbara usually served as the league secretary, and was the natural organizer and communicator of the group. But, Barbara’s real skills were put to use in serving as league secretary for over three decades for the “Pony Express” league on Friday nights, first at Wedgwood Bowl, then Westcreek Lanes, then at Don Carter Southwest. Many lifelong friendships were fostered in this time, and her weekly newsletters, celebrating the high points, and gently poking fun at the mishaps were most league member’s favorite part of the week. She handled all the bookkeeping, the individual and team records along with financial records for the league for years, and took great pride in what she considered “her job.”

Barbara also was a master planner of long road trips, hostess of epic Christmas Eve parties, and top-notch needlepoint and cross-stitch creator. Her greatest gift though, was her love for her family. No one who was loved by her ever doubted that she would go to the ends of the earth to protect them.

Barbara left this world and entered her eternal home on November 2, 2023 in Fort Worth, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, and her granddaughter Sarah Ann.

Mourning her loss are her loving husband of 67 years, Clarke Reynolds, her daughter Kathleen Barnes (and Zane) daughter Amy Kuhns (and John) grandchildren Penny Barnes, Scott Barnes, Robert Kuhns (and Liesa), Jillian Hurdt (and Kevin) and four great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her loving sister, Dorothy Bishop, and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her beautiful smile.

Family and friends will gather on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at 1:00 PM at the St Francis Village PAC (Activity Center) 4070 St Francis Village Rd, Crowley, TX 76036 for a Celebration of Life. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that those who wish to remember Barbara consider donating to the charity of their choice in her memory.
