Barbara's obituary
Born October 27, 1933, in Roslindale, Massachusetts to Frederick and Gertrude (Gammons) Bumpus, Barbara now joins her seven siblings who have gone before her; Robert Bumpus, Gertrude Bradley, George Bumpus, Larry Bumpus, Freddy Bumpus, Patricia Rosenberger, and Russell Bumpus.
Barbara graduated from Rossi High School in 1951. She loved to dance at Moseley’s on the Charles anytime she could…and boy did she love to dance! Barbara was lucky to have her childhood friends in her life: Jean, Doris, and Lorraine. The names of these four lifelong friends went together like a familiar song.
In 1959, Barbara married C. William Palmer and welcomed his three children into her life; Cheryl Sampson (Brian Pierce), Linda Palmer, Steven Palmer (Mary-Ellen). Bill and Barb went on to have many adventures, from owning motels on the Cape to living in Florida.
Barbara worked at the Dennis Housing Authority for over 25 years and was loved by all her clients for her compassion and sense of humor. However, Barbara’s greatest accomplishment was raising her three children and being the BEST mother. Mom loved a good book and sitting at Bass River beach. Her favorite nights were enjoying a meal of prime rib and hot baked potato, and (of course!) chocolate! She was known for her infectious laugh and beautiful smile.
Barbara lives on through her children, grandchildren, her pal Dexter, extended family, and many, many friends. Forever in our hearts!!
Barbara had strong faith and her life will be celebrated with a Mass at 11am on Tuesday September 21 at Saint Pius X Parish located at 5 Barbara St, South Yarmouth, MA 02664.
A gathering with family and friends will follow.
