Barbara's obituary

Barbara Jean (Karasinski) Norman, 72, of Campbelltown, PA, passed away on September 24, 2020 after living with Alzheimer’s disease for over seven years. She was born to the late Andrew & Ardith Karasinski, on June 28, 1948, in Sand Lake, Michigan. Barb was the third of ten children and was preceded in death by her sisters Linda Threthewey and Bonnie Karasinski.

Barb is survived by her daughter Lara Norman-Kehe, son-in-law Andrew Kehe, of Lancaster, PA; son Greg Norman, daughter-in-law Cheryl Sedlak-Seaver, of Clarksburg, MD; and grandchildren Alex Norman-Washington, of Beijing, China; and Natalie Norman-Kehe, of New York, NY. She was a proud mother and grandmother, whose primary focus was to love and support her children and grandchildren in any way she could. In 2003 she moved to California to be closer to her daughter’s family. In 2008 she moved to Pennsylvania to be near both her children, their spouses and her grandchildren.

Barb was an extremely hard worker. She often worked multiple jobs to support her children. Yet she always made it a priority to be involved in her children’s activities, including teaching Sunday School, serving as a 4-H leader, and leading a Cub Scouts pack. In 1986, while working full-time, Barb enrolled at Northwestern Michigan College and earned an associate degree in Business in 1990. Later, she surprised everyone by returning to NMC to pursue an associate degree in Nursing, which she earned in 2000.

Barb’s primary goal in life was to care for others. After years of working in business and banking, she found her calling as a Licensed Practical Nurse. As an LPN, she worked in nursing homes, including as the lead nurse in an Alzheimer’s unit, and later provided care as a nurse for children with special needs.

Barb was skilled at sewing, quilting, embroidery and crocheting. This was her love language. She made sure her family was well stocked with costumes, pajamas, cross stitch artwork, blankets and quilts. She also made dozens of quilts for hospitalized children through Project Linus and hundreds of winter hats for the homeless.

Barb will be deeply missed. If you would like to honor her in a tangible way, please consider donating to the Alzheimer’s Association or Project Linus. https://www.alz.org/ https://www.projectlinus.org/
