Barbara's obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Barbara Nishikawa, born in the year of 1954. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion and servitude. Barbara's spirit will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Michael Nishikawa, and their devoted daughter, Khatrina Meeuwsen. She was predeceased by her son, Michael Koerte.
A memorial service and viewing for Barbara will take place on April 10, 2024, at Oʻahu Mortuary. The viewing commences at 5:00 PM, followed by the service at 6:00 PM.
Barbara graduated from Waiʻanae High School in 1972, marking the beginning of her lifelong dedication to education and learning. In 1996, she married the love of her life, Michael Nishikawa. After ten years of marriage, Barbara embarked on a rewarding career at the Building Industry Association of Hawaii in 2006. Her dedication and contribution to the education department resulted in the development of significant training programs aimed at Hawaii's construction industry and underprivileged youth at risk. This career, full of accomplishment and service, saw its conclusion upon her retirement in 2023.
Barbara had a zest for life that was reflected in her personal interests. Her palate delighted in the flavors of potato salad, green salads, Filipino foods, Pho, and soups. Anne Rice books held a permanent place on her bookshelf, and she enjoyed the soothing sounds of Barbara Streisand and the songs "To Sir With Love" and "End of the World". Barbara's favorite TV shows, like Blue Bloods and Dateline, exemplified her intrigue for detective stories, which extended her fondness for thriller movies. Relaxing with her family, dining out, and visiting Las Vegas were among her favorite activities. Barbara's world was often brightened by the color red, her beloved hue.
Barbara was a beacon of cheerfulness, warmth, and hospitality. Her love for others was unconditional, her wit unmatched, and her passion for helping others undying. She taught us the value of love, the power of forgiveness, and the importance of punctuality.
Her greatest accomplishment, beyond her professional achievements, was her family. Her loving marriage of 28 years and the establishment of a warm, loving home are tributes to her nurturing spirit. In her footsteps, she leaves the gift of service, prioritizing loved ones, and the ability to touch lives positively. Barbara's unwavering love has left the world a better place and hearts much warmer.
