On Wednesday, August 7th 2019, Barbara (Rice) Knight, loving mother, sister, grandmother and girlfriend passed away in Hastings Nebraska at the age of 60. Barb was born on October 16th 1958 in Sargent Nebraska to Melvin and Lenora (Winn) Rice. As a child she grew up in Taylor Nebraska with her parents and siblings, she enjoyed taking care of cats and helping her father in the shop occasionally. She graduated from Loup County Public Schools in Taylor Nebraska in 1977. During High School she worked as a CNA and Aid as well as participated in 4H. During 4H she had the opportunity to visit Michigan as an exchange student and visit Washington D.C. After High Schools she moved to Lincoln Nebraska for a short time before ending up in Grand Island Nebraska. Barb had a short marriage to William Knight from 1984 to 1990. After her divorce she attended Central Community College in Grand Island where she received her CNA and LPN education.
Barb worked in various branches on the medical field between nursing homes, assisted living, and in home health the majority of her adult life as well as waiting tables at various restaurants. She was always helping, serving, and uplifting people no matter her occupation. She had a passion for taking care of people, which she showed numerous times helping friends of her own and taking in friends of her daughter. Barb enjoyed crochet, and had recently gotten back into leather working. She adored spending time with her loved ones, especially her grandchildren.
Barb is preceded in death by her father Melvin, and her mother Lenora. She is survived by her significant other Steve Trotter of Grand Island Nebraska, her two children and spouses Megan and Donald Boone and their children A’mya, Anthony, Ana’lise, E’lyza, Ema’lin and Eligh of Wray Colorado and Michael and Natasha Knight and their children Sasha, Kase, and Skylar of Haigler Nebraska. As well as her siblings and their spouses, sister Betti (Rice) and Lloyd Prentice of Mullen Nebraska, sister Lois (Rice) and Eddy Boller of Springfield Nebraska and brother Wayne and Marilyn Rice of Grand Island Nebraska. She is also survived by two aunts, numerous cousins and a niece and nephew.
Her children and family would like you to join them for a graveside service on April 25th 2020 at the Almeria Cemetery approximately 13 miles NW of Taylor Nebraska at 11am
